Sounds like you are a decent seller. The trouble is that ebay's rules differ to your own and ebay always finds in favour of its own rules.

Sounds as though you have had trouble with Ebay . I have never had any real issues in fifteen years.
Just to encourage newbies to give it a try and show that there is money to be made, just sold a book costing 50p for £80!

The thing I suppose you have to offset that £79.50 profit against everything else you've bought this week that maybe you've made a loss on and unsold...

Fascinating either way ;)

I've never had any issues myself with eBay. But I also don't sell that much stuff.

Once again, just to be clear, my post was a tongue-in-cheek post about how reselling is taking off at the moment.

I personally do know people who have had nightmare buyers, lost £££ and had all sorts of issues. Part of the reason I think I never did is my buyer prefs are set VERY tight. I'm sure it has saved me on more than 1 occasion.

:)

So no items you buy ever gets sold for a loss or you have to abandon the item as no one is buying it no matter how many times you relist it?
At the very worst I always get my money back and most times I always show a profit. You might find this astounding and probably will not believe me, but today I sold an item for £125 plus postage that cost me 20p!!!!

Good going, @Dick Barton - there's definitely good money in buying and reselling (it's what all the retailers do, after all!).

There's a knack in knowing when an item is priced lower than the going market rate. Crack that and find enough items and you're quids-in!

Hi David
You are absolutely correct. I put things up on this board to convince others that it can be done (not to boast). If you stick to the following you really cannot go wrong.
As a beginner set a maximum you buy an item for. Mine is still around £3. I do make exceptions, but I have some years experience. I buy a lot of items at £1 or less. If you do lose out you are not losing much. My other criterion is that if I like it someone else will like it and give more than I paid.

I didn`t realise you was talking about buying and reselling. I`ve been doing it for about a year now with the same strategy you have. I didn`t have a lot of money when I started out so it was mainly £1 or £2, depends how much I earned on Qmee at the time, then I relaxed a little now and what I do is pay with the money in my Paypal account, I don`t go overboard but I think the maximum I have paid out is £14. The greatest bargain I have got so far is I found a dress which I knew was retailed at £99, got it for £9.99 but i`m still trying to sell it..It`s a Christmassy dress though.

I don`t sell on Ebay, had enough of it. I have had some trouble on Ebay maybe once or twice but I don`t like the fees and i`d rather buy then sell. Sometimes I buy what I like, that has resorted in some weird items. But I go for the young audience mostly so I go to the brands that I know will do well. My best selling place is Depop, a phone app but I also use Vinted and Mercari. Mercari is really slow so I don`t really recommend it.

Without this I wouldn`t of managed to pay for some crucial things in life, I am currently trying to clear a debt of £700 and with the help of buying and reselling and 6 other incrome streams I have so far managed to cover £500.

Having a target really does help focus you, doesn't it. I like the laser-sharp focus of your blog - it's a simple and well-executed idea. Tumblr is perfect to encourage re-blogging of your posts (and your affiliate links!).

Seasoned matched bettors will be familiar with the concept of 'expected value' (EV) with casino offers which aren't risk-free. The EV of reselling stuff is much higher - especially as you have more control (e.g. what you buy, and where and how much you sell it for).

Wow, what a personal post.

Can't believe you had your identity stolen, that sucks!!!

Yeah it was baaaad. But I've got it back and not lost anything - just got some nice compensation for it instead so all's well!
