What is it that makes people give up on earning online / working from home?

I make £800+ fairly easily online each month, and I'm not making a penny from my blog yet.

I guess I didn't get through the application then, as I haven't been contacted. :(

Lionbridge seems to need a smartphone, as do more and more of assignments I'm seeing. My samsung is utterly rubbish at internet access. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to upgrade a bit.

Lionbridge / Leapforce / Appen do not need a smartphone - They are all web search evaluator work

The Lionbridge application now says you need a smartphone unfortunately.

There may be optional smartphone work available once you are signed up but I will be gobsmacked if the main bulk of it ever involves you having to touch a smartphone

You should get one anyway as they open you up to make money making opportunities ;)

You're convincing me, LOL! Since I have to start from scratch as it were, would you say there's an advantage to having an iPhone rather than an Android phone? I do see 4s and 5s come up fairly often on my local Facebook selling site.

wow I am grateful for the odd few £ I scrape through lol, I am tied with health issues atm and sometimes in bed weeks on end or at a lot of hospital/doc appts so not good at doing things that require constant logging in.

Amazed how much you guys make :D

I think most people it's that they just do not have the will power or drive, most of the sites I do I get Amazon vouchers and my drive is that I can get birthday gifts etc for people I could not get without them. Thats enough to push me on

I think a legitimate reason why working from home may not work out, in spite of the potential earnings, is just the social aspect, the feeling of wellbeing by leaving the house and being in 'real' employment.

I agree 100%. I worked from home for 7 years. Last year I started a "real" job alongside my work from home and feel so much better. I feel so sluggish when I am sat at my laptop for hours on end with no social interaction. Also if you work from home for 8 hours a day, you are actually working for those full 8 hours. An 8 hours work day in employment just isn’t as intense and you do get to chat to colleagues, grab a coffee etc and still get paid.

yeah very good point.

I generally crave 2 things in my working life. Success and human interaction - working from home isn't going to give me that and so I could never do it' full time'

I've just totted up my earning from surveys, tasks, mystery shopping etc since I started doing this a month ago - just passed the £200 mark, plus have paid for a couple of nights out that I'd be having anyway thanks to a few mystery shopping assignments happening to be in local pubs/restaurants which I often frequent, and shopping tasks reimbursing things I'd be buying anyway.

I recently gave up work through ill-health and have set myself a target of three months to try and create an income which will allow me to not have to go back to a "regular" workplace. Hopefully if I can get myself some work with Appen or Lionbridge (failed Leapforce...) then this will become a reality. Also, I really must sign up for What Users Do at some point!

I realise it's not for everyone, but I realised that my health requires that I operate at my own pace and need the flexibility that a 9 to 5 doesn't give me. All I've ever done is admin so I thought I was going to be doing that for the rest of my days and couldn't see a way of making a living at my own pace. I think the difference is that I realise it's not going to be easy, and that I need to put the hours in and try to make this work for me.

I'll be back on this thread in three months to see if I have an answer to "what is it that makes people give up" ;D

I'm the same. I can't currently work because of health issues so am trying to find other ways of making money. I don't drive and have some problems with public transport so getting out to do tasks or mystery shopping is difficult although not impossible. I failed leapforce and am applying for lionbridge. I've started what users do and signed up for utest. I do some surveys although am not a good demographic and lack patience.
I don't necessarily like not knowing if I'll be able to make enough money to live on. I'm hopeful I'll be able to improve my health so I can get back to work and just be able to do these things as a way of making a bit extra. Flexibility and the ability to work at home sounds great in theory but the lack of a guaranteed income is quite stressful.

I have no ill health and love working from home. Do Leapforce (for now ahahahahaha) and 63336, and other bits and bobs, as well as college and a voluntary placement. I like the fact I skype people rather than talking to people in "real-life", and if I fancy a chat with anyone, then I have my mam, Mr Queen and the kids all at hand :)

I miss social interaction which I think is one of the main reasons I am looking for out of the home work too. I love being able to Skype but I need to talk to people. The poor husband gets his ear talked off as soon as he walks through the door (a reason he wants me to look for work) as I haven't been able to talk to someone all day.

My biggest problem with being social though is that I'm generally the weird one of the office who likes the wrong type of music and gaming. ;)

If only TMS had an office, we'd all get on swimmingly.
