I once sold a plastic carrier bag on Ebay 'support your local butcher' for £1.49 to a theatre company!

I won't say this is the most unusual way to make money, but it was okay while it lasted! What I used to do was write small booklets and publish them on Amazon. I never made any great money, but I did earn around £15-20 a month as truly passive income. My idea was to keep increasing the number of publications and build this figure up. For those that don't know, you were paid on sales and when 'books' were taken out on loan which most of mine were. Then Amazon decided to pay per page read at 1/2 cent which killed the income overnight. This month I have earned £1.75 and about £26 for the year (enough to pay for the Christmas turkey!). I suppose I should be grateful that my total earnings since starting the project are about £450 so it has not been a total failure

Yes , it's one of those areas where that are both collectable and tends to attract a demographic with a high disposal income. i.e. men of a certain age, who don't have a lot else to spend their money on (and I speak as a 52 year old man). Cricket items can be the same, and I got well rewarded for putting my old Subbuteo items on ebay

I'm gonna have a look through my attic I'm sure I've got a subbuteo set somewhere, didn't think it would he worth anything

Yesterday I bought 2 items from a charity shop. One was an empty milk bottle and the other a sealed jigsaw. The total cost was £3. I will report back if these get sold

Not too bad today. Sold some old rope for a profit of £18
I remember seeing a program on bbc2 about if you can make 'money for old rope' and they literally took rope found on the beach and sold it on ebay for like £2.40 profit and were AMAZED!

I remember that program too - I guess one person's poison is another person's wine.

Can't think of anything unusual but I did sell our old kitchen on ebay - it was the kitchen the builders put in, it was still in good condition but the plan was to take it to the tip... then I thought I'd try selling it and it went for £180-ish.

I just sold on ebay, three blank TDK D90 cassette tapes, unused still sealed in their wrapper. Found them in a box in the loft with some old Sinclair Spectrum games. Next step, sell the Spectrum games.

I used old jars, decorated them and made my own hot chocolate gift sets with marshmallows and sold them. Worked well but really only demand at Christmas time.

I once did a questionaire/survey where I had to say which Youtubers I liked from a list, quite a bizarre question and one of the easiest ways I've got points.

@homie

I used to do car boot sales all the time. Sometimes would make £100, then it dropped to £50 and when it dropped to £20 i stopped as it wasn't worth my time. It all depends if you buy stuff cheap to then sell on. I was just selling stuff from around the house.

I think they have dwindled quite a bit now. Even charity shops don't sell stuff cheap anymore - they have cottoned on to selling it on eBay for more money themselves.

Charity shops are so expensive now! One of my local ones had a primark dress marked up twice the retail value! Ridiculous.

I still buy and sell from car boot sales and charity shops (plus others). The key to making it pay is to have knowledge that others do not.

I would agree with that.

I often wonder about eBay resellers that put up a picture of a dress saying how they paid £5 for this and sold it for £49 but I wonder what other tons of useless crap they've bought but can't sell alongside it!!

I have always stuck to the principle that if you don't pay much, you can't lose much, and if I like it, then someone else may also like it and offer me more money! I have been doing it for quite a few years and there isn't much I purchase that I cannot shift at some time.
