I've noticed an absolute explosion in sign up/referral offers for bitcoin (a lottery in itself IMO) and money transfer services lately. They usually offer £5-£20 for signing up using a referral, providing you forward your identity documents. So those identity documents and data on you must be worth quite a lot of money IMO. I'm always wary of anything which requires my identity online- especially these fly-by-night sort of sites which probably won't exist in a year or two. Am I paranoid?

We hand over our identity for bloomin online survey sites so I doubt people bat an eyelid at doing it for a sign up referral bonus lol

Well yes, but having photo ID and all that is another level. I had no choice at a few sites while I was matched betting but even then I found is ridiculous thay they never ask questions when you deposit but only when you withdraw. I can't help thinking all this data is going to be in the wrong hands one of these days.

I agree. In fact I won't do offers like that where I have to send my ID unless I am actually going to use the product. Its not unlikely that one of those tin pot companies could get hacked at sometime, and then the hackers would have everything they need to open all manner of accounts and loans in your name.

I have only ever done this with Prolific and Testable as they seem trustworthy and have been around awhile. But they aren't beyond being hacked. In fact, come to think of it, they will probably be more lucrative targets for that very reason. :/

Blimey, glad I signed up before that then - I don't have photo ID.
