Where do we go?

I am getting more and more concerned as to what is gong to happen to this site. I suspect that one day it will just disappear. If this is the case I would like to ask those of us left, where do we go? Are there any other sites that people use where maybe we could still communicate and help and advise each other? In my time on the Internet this site is unique and I will miss it terribly should it just evaporate into the ether.

So, where else do people go? What other sites do people use? Maybe we could still help each other on other sites if this one dies?

I agree that one day I'll click on the tab and the site will be replaced with a "for sale" placeholder. It's a real pity, and I wish I a) had the money to buy it, and b) had the money to pay a few people money to mod the forums/contribute occasional fresh content etc.

But I don't, so that's that.

I used to spend a lot of time in the /beermoney reddit. I don't any longer, but not for any good reason. It just...drifted.

I don't like The Other Place, and have never done more than lurk. There are a few posters there who seem to operate by a set of 'rules' that they don't clue anyone else in to, except to tell people that they've broken them and make them so uncomfortable that they leave. A good friend was a board mod for a long time until a few of that clique drove them out.

So I don't know. Maybe a dedicated 'ex-Money Shed' Reddit, rather than descending mob-handed on an existing WFH/earn extra sub?

I can't help feeling time is of the essence on this one so if we DO suddenly disappear here, I will set up a sub-Reddit with 'Money Shed' somewhere in the title, so just search on that.

i looked at opening site as there doesnt seem to be a hang out site anymore to bounce ideas off people - still looking!

its a shame but the new owner hasn't even logged in for 4 months so it shows there is no plan for the site and is just earning any referral money he can - at a guess!

the forums have had no fresh blood, no moderation and full of sign up spam offers my summary page just says ignored member for latest posts as its just spam, the bots are now talking to each other too haha!

I do spend a lot of time in the other place and quite enjoy it. I think there has been some improvement with board guides as they seem to be more into giving information than pushing their
views.

The big issue for me would be that I am not sure if there is a way to read posts from different forums rather than just picking one topic and reading what you wanted before moving on.

The Other Place is the Martin Lewis site. I have looked on it occasionally but it just doesn't appeal to me.

I've just had a flick-through it and (apart from the the green site site generally needing a serious refresh) you're right - it's a bit meh and has a fair few armchair lawyers on there holding court. I'll pass I think.

I was on their debt-free wannabe forum for a while (rarely posted) and the 'I'm not judging but...' pile-ons of some people needing help prompted me to close the account entirely. It must have put people off even bothering to ask.

When Jon ran the site, he and the green site didn't get on, so he put it into the swear filter, so that when anyone tries to type the proper name, it reverts to the green site

I totally get your worry about this place disappearing; it feels like home. If that happens, I’d suggest checking out Reddit—there are some great communities there that might match our vibe. I’ve also found Discord to be a fun way to chat in real time with people who have similar interests. I’ve used ProBoards for other topics in the past, and it worked well. It would be a bummer to lose touch with everyone here, but at least we have options to stay connected elsewhere!
