Hi,

I'm new here and was quite shocked to not find anything on wombling... Does anyone here womble? Does anyone not know what wombling is?

I wrote a blog on it a few months ago. - http://theminimillionaire.com/2015/03/22/wombling-for-cash/

It means that we pay literally nothing for our food shopping utilising ASDA's APG system and it saves us a fortune.

I'd love to get a thread running on it if there isn't one already :)

Interesting.....

As someone who ONLY shops online with tesco once a week how can I harness this exploit?

Hey [member=2347]TMM[/member] I'm new here too and I also womble! Love your blog post : )

I have Tesco and Sains near me and also keep an eye out for McD's coffee cups for the sticker, Minstrels/Malteser bags when the free cinema tickets are on offer and, of course, any roadkill. I'm pretty sure that there's much more I could be doing though.

[member=1]Jon@TheMoneyShed[/member] Do you ever walk past a Tesco Express or a Sains Local? You'll often see receipts on the ground outside. Another good source is at the self service tills. Keep your eyes peeled for any receipt with a bar code at the bottom, these generally indicate unclaimed points.

I'm so glad to hear it. I love the self service tills, although sometimes I forget where I am and just start swiping them and forgetting that people can see haha! My dad gets the tokens for McD's coffee from eBay so there already like 10p a cup which is fantastic! We also give them out to the homeless - always a bonus :)

I'm terrible for road kill, over a year trying and found nothing more than a few pennies :(

I don't think you could.

The point of wombling is to pick up / find / rummage for the receipts of other people's shops and use them to reclaim reward points (clubcard, nectar, boots advantage...) I use ASDA's APG website (If your shop isn't 10% cheaper than Waitrose, Tesco or Sains they'll give you the difference) I'd say a 10 min walk around the carpark of your local can make you around £10... some receipts can be worth £5+ on there own so it's litrally like finding £5 on the floor.

We use it to cover all our food, clothes, house items, christmas / birthday presents. It's super handy now the supermarkets have decided they would like to sell everything ;-)

I have found a couple of tesco price match receipts in the car park, one was worth around £2.50. I also have added the points from another receipt i found in a trolley.

I don't go out of my way to look for them but will check the ones I see.

Makes you wonder if the staff at the supermarkets are in on this as well :)

I don't actively do this but if I see a receipt in the self service I take it. Best ones have been £9.99 in sainsburys (their maximum I think?).

I don't like the idea of picking things up off the floor outside so that puts me off. Keep meaning to look for ways to exploit the apg online. Do you ever do that? (Without using other people's receipts)

I used to do this with help from a thread on the green site. Unfortunately since the new APG system in July these kinds of scenarios have really dried up. :(

Don't actively do it either, but if there's a receipt in the trolley or left in the self-service thingy I'll take it and check. First time I ever did it I got £5 from Asda as the person who had left the receipt had bought lots of meat which was obviously on special offer elsewhere but haven't been as lucky since.

I can't tell you how much you're missing out!

You can even do targetted shops where you shop in Asda specifically to get a high APG - I wrote about it here: http://theminimillionaire.com/101-ways-to-save-money/once-you-know-how-to-womble/

Obviously the amount and number of receipts that tend to generate a result can vary from week to week depending on the offers every supermarket involved in the APG process has on, in around 20 mins I can get around 20 receipts and around 12 of those will have an APG result. More often than not there under £1 with the odd one over £1. So est return would be somewhere around the £10 mark.

£10 for 20 mins of walking around picking up receipts. ;) I'd much rather do that than a survey but that's personal preference of course :D

The best time is Christmas, mainly cause all the supermarkets go nuts for alcohol offers and Christmas food. Last year Tesco ran some amazing deals, which meant the average APG was coming out around £3... I was getting some for nearer £10 a receipt, better still there's more of them about because more people are at the supermarkets.

In January we had around £150 to spend with them all and used it on clothes, homeware, and reduced presents that we are planning on gifting this Christmas. :)

I don't go out of my way but I have picked receipts off the floor - as you say it is like free money kicking around! I might go out of my way to do it a bit more when I have more time when eldest at school full time.

Thanks for posting this is interesting. I must be missing something though as what do you do with the receipts when you find them?

If you read the blog post it should explain all, if you have any questions message me.

Specifically the best one is Asda because of the generous financial, but there's ways to womble A LOT of places... KFC being a new one, even Farmfoods who have started giving you £5 in actual cash when you spend so much with them.

I womble occasionally and husband normally comes back from Asda with a handful of receipts for me we got £1.98 from one yesterday.

I do still feel a little self concious picking things up but the way I see it is that I wouldn't walk past a £5 note on the floor, I've also been wombling packets with codes or competitions on, the school run is very lucrative for these I always have a plastic bag in the buggy and hand sanitizer so I don't see the problem but as with anything it's each to their own.

The way I see it is people might look... for all of two seconds... then they've forgotten about it... in the meantime I've picked up what could be a goldmine of a receipt ;) The more you do it, the less conscious you get, and the less you care about what people think.

The more worrying part is coming to spend them, we try spend the wombles we picked up on the previous visit when we go to womble instead of walking in all guns blazing with 20 receipts and £50 worth of vouchers. This often means we pick odds and ends up at a time but that doesn't bother us in fact we like the challenge of walking in with £5 worth of receipts and getting everything we need for the coming few days - which often co-insides with us going at the massive reduction time - I've done another blog post on that if any of you haven't experiences the amazing reduction goodness. :)

I'm a womble too!! I don't get much chance to get to Asda to use the APG's but I do regularly use other stores loyalty schemes to my benefit and that of my family. The ones that I currently do are: Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Tesco, McDonalds, Farm Foods, Asda, Co-Op, Boots, Superdrug and KFC. I'm a member of a wombling group on Facebook who help each other out with suggestions and ideas and also if people are having problems with the companies involved. ;D

Remember you're a womble...

I don't even remember to cash in my own receipt-y thingies. Must make a conscious effort to do so.

You have to have a receipt to get an APG as when you go in store you need to have the original receipt and APG together as the staff have to check them against each other.
