Morning all

I'm not incompetent when it comes to technology, however I'm having a nightmare with Wordpress! I thought it was supposed to be easy?! I bought my domain name & hosting a while ago, and as I've decided to finally knock matched betting on the head I've been revisiting it this week in the hope of getting it all up and running.

However, I can't seem to make any changes! I go onto customize etc, but every time I make a change and save/make live, nothing actually happens. I've just changed my theme and when I go in it says that's the active theme, but it's still showing the old site. So I can't make any changes. I'm really confused. I can't see what else I can do!

I think I need a idiots guide to updating Wordpress sites....!!

You don't have any kind of caching turned on with your hosting do you?

So you've made a theme your active one, you go to customise it and every change you make (remembering to hit 'Publish' when you make a change) you aren't then seeing is that right?

I don't know about caching, how do I check that?

So, yesterday I was trying to make changes to my existing theme (update the images as I literally had not done anything with it) - hit publish and it wasn't updated. The button says published and is greyed out.

Today I've tried to change the theme, it says this new theme is the active theme, but it's still the old theme that's showing so no way of updating it! I just tried to change an image to see if that would push things through, but I have the same issue as yesterday. Odd!!

OK, forget the theme for a second

If you create a new post and publish it does that appear on the front page at least?

Yep, that works!
Ok so in that case isn't not a caching issues.

If you set your site up so you only have one theme installed and then go into Customise and change some obvious looking settings like how the header looks / menus / side widgets - so those changes when published kick through?

I've just tried to update the background image, which has actually worked.

Yesterday I was trying to update the top image which I thought would be classed as the Header - so maybe that's not actually right! But if it's not the Header, I can't work out what it actually is!!

You'd have to share the URL for me to help you identify what it is
