Hi all,
my website sometime loads slowly and it's grinding my gears!!

I'm wondering if it's the shared hosting that's the issue...does anyone have a recommendation for a good budget WordPress host? (must have more than 5Gb storage, ideally 10GB+ and for 2-3 sites.)

What's your budget? Can you stretch to the £33 a year hostpresto offer to the right?

Be forewarned : Vidahost / TSOHost/ GoDaddy shared is oversubscribed which is why you are finding it slow for your site.

Ideally under £40/yr. Hostpresto only has 5GB disk space at that price point.

Are you using image compression on your sites via a wordpress plugin or anything?

5gb for the site you have now is quite a lot!

You're going to struggle to want THAT much space for that low price. Especially with the cpanel cost issue ramping up costs

Even with Guru (review here) the best i can get you in £9.99 a month (you pay monthly) with nothing to pay until January 1st. However their disc caching and technology is ALL performance based (as you will see if you use TMSBlog and look at the speed of the site).

You get 100GB space with that which would be more than you want and I suppose the upside is you can leave at any point since you only pay 30 days in advance

Am trying to give you UK based solutions here, you may find cheaper if you got for a US hosting company.

Krystal Hosting (https://krystal.uk) is another good one but even then by the looks of it you are looking slightly above your budget

FreeThought Internet ( https://www.freethought-internet.co.uk/web-hosting/) can give you want you want for £60 odd by the looks of it.

Part of me wonders if you would just be better going down the reseller hosting route as I have done.

You would then get say 100 Cpanel accounts to use. So all your sites are separate. They have their own Ram allocation, their own bandwidth allocation etc. So at the moment with your current cloud hosting if another site on that cloud is busy it will slow yours down. With reseller each website is in it's own little pot and the resources can't be taken elsewhere.

first year only but you are of course free to move wherever you want after the 1st year.

Well you can move where you want at any point really you just have to pay the new hosting company to take it over lol

The reality with hosting is that if you pay peanuts you get a peanuts service. Companies can afford to offer web hosting for something silly like £4.99 a month without some cost savings at their end in terms of the equipment your site ends up and the level of support you get.

10GB+ seems a load.

Are you sure you need that much space? If you aren't resizing/optimising your images then your loading speed might be dreadful for visitors.

I'm using WPSmush to optimise images. not sure how to go about resizing, i'm just using screenshots, uploading to WP then smushing them. Most images seem to be between 10kb to 25kb with a few larger. Is this typical?

I'd say you probably need 3-5gb across all three sites.

With your optimised images, you will struggle to get near 1GB per site based on your current site. You have space for

(runs off to do some quick maths....

326mb / 25kb = about thirteen thousand)

13k MORE images on each site before you hit 1GB. You won't be getting there anytime soon. Based on that, don't worry about needing 10GB. Upgrade to 10GB when you need it.

I had a similar issue when looking at podcast hosts. Don't pay for vanity-sizing your project....buy what you need today and worry about upgrading later.

Don't buy hosting now for what you project in 3 years time.

Buy what you need now, for now.

Otherwise you're paying extra when you don't need it.

Re: images, try to optimise before you upload. Screenshots should be pretty small.

@David Says..., how do you optimise images before uploading (sorry I'm a novice).
I'm currently using Firefox browser screenshot tool and taking images, then uploading straight to WP.

To be fair, your site looks like it's handling image sizes pretty well, from the few that I sampled. I don't think that's a problem, as such.

I'd follow @The Reverend 's advice. Buying 10 GB on the off chance that you might need it is like buying an 8-bedroom house on the off-chance that you have sextuplets.

I would still say you need to move host if TSO is slowing your site down due to its shared cloud hosting methods

I paid annually so...:(.
Have you phoned / live chatted with them about the speed of the site and what they could do at their end to speed it up? (Move your to another sever with less resource hungry sites maybe)
