Maybe it's just the way I look at it but can someone who has worked for home based franchises explain to me what the appeal is with them?

Every post I see about them on Mum sites is generally sickly sweet about what an amazing community their brand gives you and how it is basically like having friends who pay you money.

It there some kind of appeal I am not seeing? Is it the fact you as basically getting to run your own business but with a lot less risks?

Why is getting people to sign up to your franchise such an important factor? Is that where the money is to be made?

From what I understand its main appeal to mums is having the brand already established for you, I looked at franchises but the initial investment tends to be in the £1000's which I just couldn't afford to invest in. It seemed like its very much for the mums that were earning a decent amount before they left work and have money to spare...

The main one I know about as I attend one with my LO is Baby Sensory which is franchise run, the woman is lovely but has a young family - she's doing what she loves while her children are at school and can run it pretty much how she wants to (taking half term off for example). As far as I can tell the appeal for the original owners is they get the lump some of initial investment without actually doing much work.

This is all based on internet research I was doing when I was looking at ways to earn money from home.
