Intriqued who would invest with no way of making money.. wonder if the same people that invested in Enron, Worldcom, Chocolate teapot company and solar roadways.
Be great if it's back though!
thing is

how DO you bring a company back which has been dead and not paying out to users for nearly a year?!!?

I can’t see they will get anyone to invest. It isn’t worth scanning any receipts on it while they aren’t paying. I expect most people have stopped using it as well. My one payment I have towards my Sky bill is still pending and that was months ago.
Not that people get many paper receipts now as everything is online anyway. They would need to have a system in place for people to forward online e-receipts as well.

They do have a system for online receipts, however there is little to no point in that when things are all at standstill.

Oh didn’t realise they did but as you say there is no point until it picks up again.

Another update from Zipzero, finally admitting that they MIGHT have to shut down the app. I was hoping they would find an investor, but the chances are looking very slim. It's a shame, I have about £40 in their account!

Here's the email in full:

Dear ZIPZERO Users,

Our apologies for the delay in delivering this update. Without a specific announcement of financing from a particular angel investor or fund, it has been difficult to share any news that would say something more than what we’ve shared before.

Over the past 15 months, we have been tackling the fundraising challenge from every angle. It has become clear to us and our users that we are approaching the point where we have to determine whether our efforts will pay off or whether we must simply call it a day.

So where are we at the moment?

Yes, we are still working and still pitching our business to several prospects a week. Many of them have been wary of taking the risk as we are still pre-revenue, however, a number of them are prepared to chip in once we have secured a lead investor who will carry the bulk of the investment.

We recently won the help of a valuable advisor, who has brought in a fresh pool of leads that are more open to very early-stage businesses. We are giving ourselves until the end of July to tackle these leads and secure the primary investment.

We plan to deliver a definitive answer about what the next steps are for the future of our business in the next eight weeks. We need these eight weeks to make sure that we have turned over every stone. There is, of course, the lingering possibility that we might not pull through and we would then have to deal with the difficult choice to shut down the app.

However, we have not lost faith in our conviction that these next few weeks can bring in the right lead investor who understands ZIPZERO’s service to the community.

Sincerely,
ZIPZERO Founders Aymeric and Marcin

They seem EXTREMELY reliant on investors don't they for a startup? Like it's their one and only revenue stream

I don't know enough about startups to comment on this but it doesn't seem positive. I like their optimism though and will keep my fingers crossed for them as when it did work, it was a nice way to contribute to my gas bill without too much effort

Dear ZIPZERO Users,
We hope that your summer holidays brought you some much-needed rest and relaxation. We also hope you were able to come back to a familiar reality.
Back in June, we shared an update about our investor situation and committed ourselves to make a definitive decision about the future of our app by the end of the summer break. In short, we were not able to secure the funding we needed in this period. That said, please bear with us so that we can explain how we plan to go forward.
In this time, we have been working on alternative solutions that would allow the business to survive and to get back on track with helping our users pay their monthly bills.
SUMMING UP
As we’ve emphasised in the past, we are confident that we have done everything we could to keep our business going. We gave it our all - fighting to stay afloat both as founders and in our personal lives and refusing to give up. In the 16 months since we started our fundraising process, we reached out to 273 potential investors and took part in 104 meetings. Ultimately, we were not able to raise the funds we needed to continue developing the app and preserve the social mission of our business.
In most cases, investors just did not have faith that a business like ours could help people and become profitable at the same time. The fact that ZIPZERO is still pre-revenue was the main obstacle in convincing investors to come on board. They just weren’t willing to take a risk on a young, socially-minded start-up in these unprecedented times. However, encouraged by the continued positive feedback from our users and the fellow start-up founders we met on our fundraising journey, we decided we couldn’t just abandon our mission.
ZIPZERO is the fruit of 10 years of learning and hard work. We have invested our lives and personal savings in the business, as well as the funds of our early angel investors.
OUR NEXT STEPS
We have come up with what we believe is a credible alternative solution that will allow us to cover users’ past and present rewards by tapping into the online marketing budgets that fuel Google and Facebook. Our plan is to collect our share of the fees that retailers are willing to pay for driving traffic to their stores - and to divert this cash to ZIPZERO and our users’ wallets. We have already secured partnerships with over 500 leading online retailers including Amazon, ASOS, B&Q, Booking.com, Ebay, Iceland and Tesco, to name but a few.
We are launching a new version of the app in the autumn that will make it possible for ZIPZERO users to shop with partner merchants. Thanks to these transactions, we will earn a fee for each ZIPZERO user who shops at a partner store - and then pass on the majority of this fee to our users in the form of a reward (cash towards bill payment). In order for us to set this plan into motion, we are counting on our users to take advantage of this function.
In the next three weeks, we will share a survey with our users to gauge their interest in using the new app.
The new app will use the same reward mechanism - earning cash rewards on retail purchases - but now instead of covering these funds from our own pockets, we can use the brand or retailer’s own marketing budget to generate these rewards. All users would have to do is start doing their shopping trips via the app with our retail partners - first online and eventually in-store as well. We know our users have been eager to use the online shopping functionality for some time and we have found a way to launch that service that is quick and relatively low cost in terms of the technology upgrades involved. This is the new future of ZIPZERO.
WHAT ABOUT THE REWARDS I EARNED IN THE PAST?
The new ZIPZERO app will give us the freedom to access a direct source of funds (retail marketing budgets) to pay out rewards to our users. We will use these funds not only to cover your rewards for newly scanned receipts and transactions with our partner merchants - but also to cover the rewards that are currently pending in your ZIPZERO wallets.
To put it simply, in order to release the rewards pending from receipt scanning, a user will need to collect the equivalent amount via partner transactions in the new app. We will then be able to cover both the historic rewards and the new partner rewards at the same time.
The alternative would have been to shut down the app entirely, but we know we have put too much work and heart into this mission to go down this road. The details of our planned reboot and the launch of the new app are summarised below.
OUR TIMELINE
1. The old version of the ZIPZERO app will no longer be available for download. We are removing the app from the Apple and Google Play stores. Note: If an existing user deletes the app, they will not be able to download it until the official launch of the new app.
2. Even though it will no longer be available for download, the current version of the app will continue to function until the launch of the new ZIPZERO app. Users are free to scan their receipts and all of their transactions will be saved and transferred to the new and updated version of the app.
3. In the next three weeks, we will poll our users in order to gauge their interest in joining the new ZIPZERO app and using the new partner shopping function.
4. At the same time, we are initiating the development of the new version of the ZIPZERO app, which will allow users to both scan their receipts and carry out online transactions with partner merchants.
5. We plan to launch the new ZIPZERO app at the end of November, just in time for the holiday shopping period - which we hope will have an even greater impact on our revenue-generating potential and get the partner rewards flowing into our users’ wallets. As we stated above, this source of funds will also allow us to cover the historic rewards accumulated via the beta version of the app.
WHAT IF I AM NO LONGER INTERESTED IN USING THE APP?
We are not alone in the challenges we've faced as a company, and we understand that our users have not had an easy time with it either. We thank you kindly for your patience and loyalty as we have navigated this challenging period. We understand perfectly that some of you will not want to continue with the app - and our users are free to delete the app and remove any data linked to their account. We will not save or store any receipt data related to any user who has deleted their account. At the same time, we want to make it clear that we have not profited in any way from your receipts scanned into the app. However, users will be able to use their previous registration information to log in to the new app and regain access to the rewards that they accumulated in their wallets via receipt scanning in the original ZIPZERO app.
For users who still share our start-up ambitions and social mission - we appreciate that you have stuck by us through the storm and we welcome you to stay on board and help us launch the next phase of the ZIPZERO app.
We want to emphasise that we will only go forward with the launch of the new version of the app if enough users are interested and willing to use the ZIPZERO to initiate some or all of their everyday purchases online.
Now that we have overcome the toughest hurdle of our start-up journey, we look optimistically towards the future and the new ZIPZERO. We would love to have you continue with us and support our vision as we make good on all our dreams and goals, despite the obstacles we have faced.
With much kindness and respect,
ZIPZERO Founders
Aymeric and Marcin

No they aren’t. Will be disappointing for allot of people if they just become another cashback app. Unless they are able to offer something different or unique that the other cashback apps/sites don’t have there won’t be many people carrying on using the app.

yeah it's gonna be a hard push to ask users to use ZipZero instead of going via TCB / Quidco - especially as they typically offer higher kickbacks!

Well it's back from the dead with the new app coming out on the 22nd November!

Dear ZIPZERO Users,
Hope you are all doing well as we rapidly head into the festive season.
Since our last update, we have been busy working to deliver the changes we promised in September. The time has come to announce that we are nearly ready to launch the new and improved ZIPZERO. Our tech team is putting the final touches to the new version of the app.
Our principal goal is to allow users to earn even higher rewards on online shopping with our partners - whilst maintaining the ability to collect and redeem a base reward for scanning traditional receipts from any shop.
A BRIEF RUNDOWN
Our mission from the start has been to help consumers monetise the enormous value in your shopping data. Every day, global giants like Google and Facebook track what we do online and earn cash by allowing retailers to target us with ads. Meanwhile, we rarely see a single penny of this wealth. As consumers, we believe everyone should have the right to benefit from the value of their shopping data. This is why we created a smart tool — the new ZIPZERO app — to enable everyone to gain access to a fair portion of these funds. Furthermore, we wanted to keep putting this cash directly towards an essential cause: monthly bill payment.
HOW DOES THE NEW ZIPZERO WORK?
As we outlined in our September update; we took the leap of reworking the app to make it possible to start swiftly generating revenues without watering down our principles. Based on a fair circle of exchange, the app will now allow users to shop online and earn even bigger rewards thanks to our retail partnerships.
At the same time, we have decided to allow users to continue scanning their receipts for a base reward (0.5%). This is also because the data contained in every receipt lets us tailor special offers from partner merchants to your shopping preferences - along with a premium reward (c.1-10%).
Every time you shop with one of our retail partners and earn premium reward units, ZIPZERO earns a commission from processing the sale. We use this commission not only to pay out your premium rewards but also to cover the base rewards you earn from sharing your shopping receipts (both physical and digital) within the app. This is how we are able to close the loop on a fair consumer exchange -- by allowing consumers to benefit from the value of their own shopping data.

WHEN DOES THE NEW ZIPZERO GO LIVE?
The launch of the new ZIPZERO app is planned for the 22nd of November - just before the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season - yes, Black Friday! To use the app’s new premium rewards feature, simply initiate any shopping trip through the app to earn maximum rewards on your purchase. Browse through our broad range of retail partners to find exactly what you are looking for and earn even more cash to pay your monthly bills.
We have also launched a brand new landing page for the new app. The new website provides all the details and FAQs to explain exactly how the new app works. There you can also find information on how to redeem reward units earned in the previous version of the app.
READY TO LAUNCH!
We cannot stress enough how important it is that so many of our users have stuck with us and continued to support our start-up journey. It has not been easy but our experiences over the past two years have pushed us to come back stronger! We look forward to continuing to pave the way for consumers to access the enormous pools of advertising budgets that we all have a right to dip into. Find out more about the app launch by visiting our landing page at www.zipzero.com.
Thank you again for bearing with us and we look forward to continuing this journey with you!
Stay safe!
Our very best,
The ZIPZERO Team

Have everybody's ZipZero balances gone down to zero ahead of the new app launch? Mine has, although my receipt upload history still shows, so am presuming I missed this in their small print.

You should find the answer in their latest update today!

Dear ZIPZERO Users,
The festive season is swiftly approaching and the new ZIPZERO app is gearing up for our BIG launch on Monday 22nd November. In the interim, we are taking the following steps to streamline the process.
Firstly:
The current App will be disabled at noon (12 PM GMT) on Thursday 18th November for maintenance and upgrades. We will be launching the new App at noon on Monday 22nd November. It is quite a long break, but this is necessary to enable the substantial changes we are introducing to make the new App work as seamlessly as possible in time for the launch. Please make sure to scan all of your available receipts before that day. You will be able to scan any receipts dated 18-22nd November as soon as the App is back (as per the 7-day period of validity).
Secondly:
We’ve gotten plenty of questions since our last update on 3rd November. Many users have asked about how the new online shopping feature will work and whether the funds in the old version of the App will be transferred to the new App. We have prepared two in-depth FAQ articles to explain how:
a) you can earn Premium Rewards on online shopping with our partner retailers (https://zipzero.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/4410029136017)
b) how you can redeem your previously earned Reward Units. You may access these articles here (https://zipzero.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/4410028778769).
Thirdly:
We are all incredibly excited to see how our users will find the new App. We are also looking forward to seeing how we can keep on building our ZIPZERO community and continue to create new relationships with our retail partners. All to deliver on our long-term goal to help consumers use their shopping data to cover more and more of their basic essential costs. We have negotiated partnerships with hundreds of retailers who are willing to divert a portion of their marketing budgets towards rewarding actual customers for their actual purchases - in the form of cash put directly towards our users’ monthly bills. This is all now possible thanks to our new Premium Rewards feature for online purchases.
Lastly:
This is really only the beginning. The more shopping trips our users make through the App, the more firepower we will have behind us to negotiate even better Premium Offers for you in the nearest future.
Now that we have the difficult months of 2020 behind us, we are delighted to come together as a team to create the new ZIPZERO - an even smarter tool that will help cover the monthly bills of consumers across the UK. Our users are part of the team, of course, since every purchase you make within the app - starting with the season’s holiday shopping - helps to grow the App’s status and its potential to secure much more for everyday consumers. With our users’ help, we can make ZIPZERO a meaningful alternative to the global giants - and divert a big chunk of retailers’ marketing budgets to put it directly towards an essential cause - monthly bill payment for thousands of users.
These are exciting times and we look forward to celebrating them with you starting on Monday 22nd November!
Yours Sincerely,
The ZIPZERO Team
