I spent the summer working for a small company. Because I worked variable part-time hours depending on the work available, I recorded my hours and reported at the end of each month. There was some confusion one month and I was actually paid early; this meant I received two months salary within the same month and so my second payment was hit with deductions which were calculated as if the two combined were representative of my monthly salary, every month of the year. The overpaid tax comes to around £400. I know this should be remedied after the end of the tax year - but that's a long time for £400 to be sitting in a pocket that isn't mine (!). Does anybody know if it's possible to apply for early rebate in this situation given how long I could otherwise be waiting? I'll obviously try calling HMRC but any advise in the meantime would be helpful. I've had a look online but can only find info in relation to year end. I guess that might be the only option but it's very frustrating if so. I'm actually having to temporarily (for 3 months) relocate for my next job in a few weeks which means paying out an initial accommodation deposit on top of usual outgoings, and it's unfortunately quite likely I won't get my first months for the new job pay until late Jan, so this money could really be pretty useful to me in the next few months ha.
Cheers!
