Does anyone else use this site?

Thanks for recommending it Jon, I made $13 from 1 small project last month.
I now have 3 active tests and a much higher rating so I'm hoping to build that up in the next few months.
I have $12 pending and 9 bugs waiting for approval (fingers crossed!)

Utest pays you to test apps and websites and report any bugs to them.
You don't need to be particularly techy but it definitely helps. I'm not but I'm learning as I go and it's actually quite fun :)

Re: Utest

I tried to get my head around this app and website but didn't understand where to begin. Do you have to do an assessment first? Do you need to have good IT skills? Would you be willing to give a 'how to' type run through of what I need to do to get started? Thanks

Re: Utest

I can try.

After you sign up and complete your profile (including experience and what devices you use) you should be invited to a project called Sandbox.
Apparently this can take a couple of months, I think I was invited within a week or 2 of signing up though.

Sandbox is the assessment. You get an overview of the site they want you to test, any known issues etc
You visit the site and go through it looking for layout issues, pages that don't load, sometimes typos and submit those (read the overview for information that needs to be included in bug reports).
They have a forum and project specific chatroom if you have any questions.
You also complete a Test Case, they'll give you clear instructions on what to do and any screenshots you need to upload. This is probably the easiest part.

Your bugs will be approved or rejected. Reasons for rejection are usually duplicates (someone else has already submitted the bug) or works as designed. There is a list of all bugs submitted so you can search to see if your bug is already in the list.
Approved bugs will be rated on value, somewhat to exceptionally. You get paid more for finding very valuable and exceptionally valuable bugs once you start working on real projects.

I completed the test cycle and submitted 2 somewhat valuable bugs and was accepted so it's not too difficult to get in.

I'm pretty good with IT but not when it comes to software and website development so as long as you can use websites and apps you should be ok. They have a lot of courses including beginners ones that you can read through before starting work.
You can have a look through all the other bugs to see what other testers are doing as well.

I hope that helps a bit. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to answer :)

Re: uTest

I signed up for Utest and have been invited to join sandbox. I am bit overwhelmed with it all. I am quite techy but there is so much information. I am not sure where to start!

Thanks for sharing though, I wouldn't never have found it without your post Spike and it really suits my circumstances right now.

Thanks Jon! I read that at the weekend which is why I signed up :)

Struggling with Sandbox though. Much tougher than I expected :(

How long did it take after registering to get invited into sandbox? Thanks

What is it you're struggling with? The Test Case or finding bugs?

Re: uTest

The test case was fine and I have found 1 bug but I am just going around in circles now. Theres a guy above me who's found 5 bugs - although I'm sure the guidance says find anymore than 2 and you're penalised.

Re: uTest

I wonder if you are in the same Sandbox as I am as someone has also submitted five bugs. I barely found one that wasn't already submitted.

Quite a challenge.

Re: uTest

I thought there was a limit to prevent people submitting more than 2 bugs.
That's really out of order.

This is one of the harder tests so you're doing well. It's a live site (assuming it's the bball one, usually is) so won't have as many bugs as a pre-release app but it does give you an idea of the project format.
It's a skill that improves over time e.g if it is the same site then I found 2 bugs in a few minutes.
It just feels almost impossible when you're starting out.

Your earnings are really good. :)

Re: uTest

Thanks. I've been slacking a bit this month so they might not be as high but that's my fault, the work is there.
I did complete a $35 Test Case this afternoon though and had a $30 review approved.
I also have ~$50 TCs waiting for approval so should be ok.

Re: uTest

I found my two bugs! I have submitted but Sandbox doesn't end for a couple of days so I am waiting to hear if they're approved. Are you getting invites to test cases? I can't see that much on the project board.

Re: uTest

Oh and I checked and any submissions of more than two bugs are -0.1pt each and affect your score

Re: uTest

I'm not really sure what the Project Board is for, to be honest. I think it's when they need more info than experience, devices and location to invite testers.

I think 1 or 2 of my projects have come from there and I've done ~90 since November.

If I remember rightly, they'll approve/reject the bugs once it has ended. A lot of the time this happens whilst the cycle is still active so you get an idea of how the customer values bugs as you go.

Re: uTest

Fab thank you, well that's reassuring. Fingers crossed now then!

How many hours do you work on Utest a week roughly?

Re: uTest

I've never really kept track, sorry.
Because I test whilst watching Netflix it doesn't feel like I'm working particularly hard, although I probably do work full time hours.

Re: uTest

Hi!

I took part in my first Sandbox test cycle yesterday... Now waiting for the results. (Probably the same as pinkboi and Vistamar - Good luck!).

spike241: I'm glad to hear that there are so many projects available. And your earnings are indeed enviable ;)
