Anyone on here done any work for Appen at all?

Done work with them in the past and always got paid.

Got an email this morning from them about doing some transcriber work

The task involves recording 1801 very short phrases into an online app in quick succession– using a smartphone, or a laptop/desktop computer with microphone. Recording the utterances should take approximately 3 hours.

You will be paid $54 AUD (£29.3 at current exchange rates) if you complete the task successfully before the specified deadline.

Reading out 1801 words.....fun times eh ;)

Yup just register and apply at

http://www.appen.com/company/opportunities/

I see they need web evaluators in Great Britain at the moment

Think I am just a translator as that's the only kind of work I ever get set from them

Well just said all 1801 words from their excel spreadsheet into my laptop microphone

Took just over an hour to do which I suppose makes the £29 quid a good return.

Drove me lightly insane though as it's got Google Glass and you have to start each line saying OK GLASS near enough

Done the second lot of these now.

Not bad for £60 just a very VERY repetitive way of earning money online

And I guess if you refuse this 3rd assignment then you get penalised in some way, like you wont get work for a while etc ?

What other stuff have you been offered because from what you are saying the pay rate versus hours works looks to be quite impressive for online work

Thanks
Mark

Correct I didn't get offered a 4th lot that others did but I was ok with that

I juggle my online work with a normal full time job so only have so many hours in the day

I never work for less than £15 an hour or any "work from home" I do

My biggest money spinner is working for 63336
http://www.themoneyshed.co.uk/earn-money-online/earn-money-by-working-for-a-text-qa-service-(63336)/

Am aiming for £600 from them this month as I have mentioned in my diary on here

Yes that unfortunate the way these people treat others.
I mean you did 3 for them but still they want more blood from you, i guess this time it was no huge drama as you didn't really want the job, but its not a nice feeling being backed into a corner to say yes is it :( after all we are all just trying to earn a little money online.

I shall check out your link now thanks

Cheers
Mark

Looks like Appen are after me (and others) for more work

We are currently building a team of UK English transcribers for a very urgent transcription project starting today, and finishing on Monday 24 March/Tuesday 25 March. I see that you have performed well on the UK English spelling test on AppenOnline, and was wondering whether you'd be interested in doing some transcription work.

Because of the urgency of the project, we are offering higher than usual payment rates for the project. Transcribers are paid for the number of utterances (short 2-3 second snippets of audio) that they process. The per-utterance pay rate for this project is $0.037 AUD, and on average transcribers can process 400-500 utterances an hour once they are used to the task (so this will work out at £8-£10 per hour). Particularly quick transcribers can do even better than this. In addition, transcribers who reach 8000 utterances for the project will receive a bonus of $30AUD, and those who reach 12000 a bonus of $60AUD

You don't have a CV at all?

if it is just 'ticking a box' to get through to the next screen just spend 20 minutes knocking one up

I wouldn't put a massive amount of effort into it, their main concern is good English skills if you want the transciber work I get and then dread having to do cos you sound like a moron saying OK GLASS a million times into a mic
