My BT hub gave up the ghost last week. BT sent me a mini-hub to tide me over. The engineer was supposed to fix me up with fibre optic cable today and he did show up. However I thought he was going to his van and he got the heck out of Dodge. When I rang up to find out what was happening the lady I spoke to said he'd left notes about there being mouldy food (that wasn't true) and evidence of Minnie and Micky's relations (I don't know if there is something I had missed but there wasn't anything like that near the BT connection box. I di d have a problem like that some years ago and someone from the Council came out and fixed it - about £50 though no doubt that will have increased). I had been spending a little time each day tidying and dusting because I had let the housework pile up because of my mobility issues. He also apparently said something about exposed wires. I couldn't see any. If he had a problem I wish he'd just said this, that and t'other is causing me concern instead of just vanishing. I've rescheduled for 13th Mach. I had fried an egg and had the thing in which I'd fried it soaking so I wonder if he got the wrong end of the stick and thought it had been there a while instead of just recently. Well the mini-hub is still functioning. I've got some typing today though at this rate I'll be spending my earnings as soon as they come in. The upgrade to fibre-optic cable is free because I have a contract with BT.
Would have been quite a mouse if it could wield a screwdriver, homie!EON tried that mouse trick on with me when my solar panel system failed. They traced it to a fault in the control box but said because I had a mouse problem I wouldn't be covered by their guarantee as mice are known to chew through cables. I do have a mouse problem and had traps down, so that might be fair enough if he had found a chewed cable. But the mouse didn't unscrew the control box then take out a soldering iron and tamper with the components in the circuit board did it? As I pointed out to the man. Anyway they did send out a replacement and fix it in the end, but I'm still annoyed they tried to weasel (or should that be mouse) their way out of fixing it.
My last full-time job before I retired was in a museum and the team I was working with were based not a million miles from the food hall and meeces came into the room where we worked though not when we were there, they came in at night. I was the only person - at the beginning at least - who had a proper desk (I don't know if the fact I was the oldest on the team had something to do with that) - the others didn't have drawers to their desks and they came into work one day to find the meeces had been nibbling at their chocolate. One of the maintenance men arranged to have a barrier - consistency was like a brush - put at the bottom of the door. Guaranteed to be mouse-proof. We came to work to find a dent in the barrier where the meeces had pushed through. I was old enough to remember I'm Sorry I'll Read that Again (radio show with John Cleese, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Bill Oddie and others pre-Monty Python and The Goodies) where they did a spoof on Champion the Wonder Horse one week called Champion The Wonder Mouse. I said we must have Champion The Wonder Mouse living at the museum.EON tried that mouse trick on with me when my solar panel system failed. I'm not averse at 'having a go' but there are times when I feel as a layperson it's best to let the experts do the task lest I make a complete mess of it. Mine laptop is an HP. I spoke to one of the people at the computer shop today and he said if it's just a matter of simply cleaning the fan they might not need to get a new one.I remember replacing a computer fan on a laptop when it said it was failing. It was out of warranty so was curious what HP tech support recommended. New motherboard for £134. I glad I went with the £12 ebay fan.
