Hi everyone,
Have been reading the forum for a while now and thought it was about time I started posting. Firstly, I just want to say thanks to everyone who has posted on the forum, some really great advice on here.
Before I start I guess i'd better introduce myself - I'm a student studying for my PhD in Computer Science. I do quite a bit of part-time work as a software developer working from home. However, I've been looking for ways to up my income and start earning some extra money online.
I saw a few posts on making money through youtube which got me thinking about putting together some programming tutorials. I've set up a website (www.learn2codetutor.com) - It's still very early days but I want to create a few collections of video tutorials on how to write code but aimed at particularly niche areas where I can apply my expertise. I'm thinking i'll offer some basic tutorials for free, then add a paywall or something similar later on to earn some money.
Eventually I'd like to start making some software to sell - but i'm still yet to think of anything useful that hasn't already been done yet!
Any advice or ideas any one has would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
James
Welcome and hi James.
As a very amateur and inept programmer, I love the concept of the website. My own iOS site is very much "go here to find training" rather than "this is how you do it". It sounds like you have the skills to do the full teaching package.
Are there any particular languages / platforms that you aim to target?
I see Apple has just released a new programming language (Switch) for iOS development, shortly after releasing SpriteKit for 2D iOS games - programming is hot at the moment and it's only going to get hotter.
One other idea might be to sell some of your training videos on Payloadz / Clickbank etc. You could also then recruit affiliates to promote your stuff on their sites as well as selling it direct yourself? This would significantly improve your exposure.
I promote some training videos from Justin at Cartoonsmart.com on my iOS website.
Other sites to look at that would be your competition include sprite-kit.com and raywenderlich.com - you might find some ideas there.
Good luck.
