I too am interested in Pheebs work on this.

He has a fantastic attitude to doing this blog and I really do think it has got 'legs' and given enough time can become quite the brand / launchpad for new hotels / B&Bs / Cafes / Shops within the Manchester area to advertise

Thanks for the lovely comments everyone! You've given me the boost I needed this morning whilst I'm sat here with loads of work to do.

I'll definitely have a look at the affiliate site, and if it's user friendly then it's something I would probably be interested in pursuing. I think that's the key thing for me - user friendly. Ultimately, as well as creating this site to generate income, I wanted to build something that was worthwhile for the community. I want it to become the go-to place for people interested in what Manchester has to offer. I want people to feel confident in my blog; knowing that I'm not ONLY in it to make some money. :)

Update

Things have been all go recently. I'm now being advertised on TMS and another popular Manchester based fashion blog. Hopefully this will get my name out there if nothing else!

I've been networking as much as possible, and will once again be making the most of #ManchesterHour on Twitter this evening. Basically, it's just an hour for local businesses to connect with each other. Everyone was really friendly last week. I'm not trying to sell any advertising yet as I want to build upon my brand for a while, but I think communicating with these businessmen and businesswomen on a regular basis will be key to future income.

Other than that, I've been commenting on others people's blogs. I tend to find them by going to Twitter and searching for #bbloggers #fbloggers #lbloggers and then selecting the "near me" option. I've found a variety of really awesome people who are willing to connect. When I comment on their blogs, my idea is to create a link back to my blog, but I'm not simply writing "This is good - here's my link." Instead, I take the time to read their post, and try to engage with it properly.

Through this, I have connected with a local blogger who has written a wonderful guest blog about Christmas in Manchester for me, and that's already up.

Erm, what else? Oh yeah - the competition is going well. My notifications are blowing up at all hours of the day with new entries.

Well, I hope I haven't bored anyone to death yet. That's it for now. :)

It's been a little while since I updated this thread, and that's mainly because I've been swamped with stuff going on with the blog, work, and also at home.

Here's a bit of an update:

I've been continuing to add fresh content, which is spiking traffic nicely each time I post. Networking is tough, especially when you're trying to balance everyday life with writing new content, posting social stuff, and building a brand. Nevertheless, I've been actively engaging with others over social media, blogging groups, and via blog comments.

I hope to make another big push in November and December, and have planned to start talking to businesses in the new year.

Update

The blog has been completely overhauled with a new design. I wanted it to be more welcoming, fun, and attractive.

A bit of a quiet day on the blog today. I did manage to add another post, but have spent the rest of my time looking for potential places to advertise/promote.

Your blog is very appealing and especially for people wanting to know more about Manchester. I would wait a while and build up more traffic before placing adverts on the site.

Thank you very much! I agree - I won't be putting any adverts on for a while yet. I've also decided that I won't use a single AdSense advert on the site. They'll all be local businesses.

That is a good idea, what might also be a good idea is to have a look at schemes that are all about keeping business local. There are many campaigns for people to stay within their communities and I am sure Manchester will have one or two. Also with the two football clubs and the new train system you should have plenty going on forever and ever amen.

It's been a VERY long time since I updated this diary, but here goes.

Things have been very busy over the last few months. The site has undergone yet another redesign, which will be the final one, and I've opted to move across the to Genesis platform.

The site is starting to get noticed a lot more now, and this month alone has seen 4 different paid features take place. It's all really exciting, and I'm now continuing to focus on delivering content on a regular basis, and improving my social exposure.
