Just upped my google Ads from 1 to 3. I've added an additional one in the side bar and currently have 1 at the bottom of my most popular post.

I have also just applied for Media.net based on the www.totallyblogging.com link so I hope to have a banner ad and then 1 in-line content ad for the longer posts.

I don't want to drown people in adverts so I'm hoping they wont impact how people interact with my site but I'll soon tell if my visitor numbers are down.

I always think as long as your blog doesn’t become ad overload and that they get to the point that they distract from the content they are generally fine to use

I would imagine you will see some great earnings when your traffic peaks with another cash back promotion

I think the ads look very neat and not overwhelming to the blog at all. Would be interesting to hear how you get on with them (can't say I've earned much/anything from Google ads myself). Will have to check out Media.net next.x

I always say with Ads you have to ask is it worth the trade off? What I mean by that is for a few pence are our you willing to lose a customer?

If you offer a service or product then I would not have any ads at all. Your number one goal is to acquire them into traffic that you own. (Get them to subscribe to our list, buy a product etc etc )

Niche sites are worth running ads on, sites like celebrity, funny fails, cute pets, geek toys etc etc - there are many but you get the point.

And the number one trick to maximise ad revenue is page views. Increase your page views and you will increase your ad revenue. For example, if you have done a list post like "Top 10 Reasons You Should Not Eat Yogurt".....

Break each "reason" onto a separate page. This will get people clicking through your pages, and every time increasing your ad views.

Hope this helps.

That sounds like hell.

I get a few people visiting my site. Ads work for me.

I also don't want anyone to subscribe to a list or buy a product. I'm happy for them to read my blog and hopefully they aren't too fussed by my ads.

agreed, breaking content down too much into page after page may expose them to more ads but I'm not sure would increase engagement.

I know personally that if I come across a site like this then I'm more likely to just close the browser. I like all my info to be on one page that I can scroll through quickly, not having to click...click...click....click.....

Good luck with your ad change @The Reverend. I switched to Mediavine at the end of last year and I'm now earning more a month with them than I was earning annually with Google Ads :D

It is yes. But that is the way the big players do it. I've done it. It works. But as you say not for everyone....

Media vine will be my next blogging ad experiment. I’ve really not enjoyed media.net so moving to someone else is easily doable.

I get about £100 a year from my google ads soif that went up to £1200 with media vine I’d be well happy!

Have you tried native ads? We done ok with these on one blog. About $3k or so. I wrote a guide here.

Sideincomeman.com/native

They won't suit all blogs and you need traffic as always but super easy to set up.

I'd not want to put those ads on any blog.

A click-bait website, maybe, but a person/professional blog? Never.

I think that a good blog should be able to make £100 a month without having to go to that level of advertising.

:)

God I HATE those click bait ones. See them all the time on local newspaper sites

HOWEVER the reality is that non bloggers don’t see things the way we do and they WILL click on those sort of ads and they will earn the blogger money

YOU WONT BELIEVE THIS FACT ABOUT THE ARMISH!!!!!!

Yes - I agree. I would never put them on a professional blog. Then again, I would never put adsense on a professional blog either.

However, these work. Whether we like them or not. They convert and get good click through rates.

You have to think of the captive audience. The buzzfeed types, the student bored on the train to work, the facebook worms. These are the people who these ads work for.

Again though - has to suit the blog in question.

'Work' is the important thing. I'd rather have 1 person come back to my site over and over again than 100 people visit it once and never again.

But then my blog isn't about making getting confusion-clicks. Its about engaging my audience. Well, thats the plan, anyway!

have to agree here

We have an entire generation who have grown up exposed to ads on social media and to see it on blogs is literally nothing to them.

While we might install Adblocker or remember the days of Google before its top 4 results were all 'paid for ones' the buzzfeed generation (as @Banx63 calls them) don't and just accept and click on them.

It's easy to sometimes all into a trap of creating a website that YOU want or doing things to appease other bloggers but others bloggers and yourself aren't gonna pay the bills, it's the regular joe readers who you should ideally be going after and they sure do love to click click click on the right sites!

I suppose it depends what people want. I could perhaps make more money conning old ladies or phoning up old relatives telling them I’m from Microsoft Tech support and I’ve discovered a virus on their computer.

However, I’d rather be me and do it my way.

:)
