Am I the only one that feels uncomfortable?

All these websites you can use to earn money require so much personal information from you, names addresses phone numbers, birthday, children you've got... supplying these makes me feel really uncomfortable - puts me off... I haven't progressed at all with WUD as they want my home address - what for? They're not sending me anything!

Am I paranoid? Should I just get on with it to earn some money? Or look for other ways to earn without supplying all my personal info?

Please don't worry about WUD

I speak to them at HQ on a nearly bi weekly basis

There is no cause for concern with anything mentioned in the toolkit

A lot of research goes on

I feel uncomfortable giving details to spammy looking things.

But WUD is a legit site, and you would be working freelance for them, so they want your details such as address.

I see it as part of working freelance and I choose the sites I want to participate in, just use your own guidance.

The whole point of TMS is that it gives people a place to see what working for company x is REALLY like, warts and all

It also gives people confidence when it comes to signing up to things

I certainly wouldn't have WUD as an advertiser on here if it wasn't all OK

I don't have a problem with giving away some information - AND I had a stalker last year!

As Jon said, with TMS you can let other people try it out first ;)

Okay, I'm starting to feel better - it started cos I had to add WUD as an exception to Java and Java was all like "This isn't a https your personal data could be at risk" and that just set me off (anxiety sufferer here)

Then I start to panic and decide not to go through with these things. I keep telling myself it's not that different to telling someone my address to receive something on Ebay... but each new site I sign up to and give out my personal details to sends my mind spinning :(

The stuff you have to sign to do web search evaluator work would make your eyes bleed - a million and one NDAs

It does work both ways though with these companies - you trust WUD or market force or whoever and they have to trust you not to openly say who the clients are who you are doing work for

Well I've completed my profile with WUD, although I think I fluffed the video a bit - it said no longer than 5mins and I was at 4:45 when I stopped but forgot the last part of the task which I'd sort of had been saying through the video but not in the specific way it asked. I'll find out soon enough - worse comes to the worse I'll have to do it again!

I give my details out everywhere, even spammy crap. If they ring me I just hang up (once I know who it is) :)

I've been doing it for years and the only problem I've ever had is spam in the post, good for lining animal cages, and telephone calls. I don't mind as I make a lot of money for the details I give out :)

WUD are legit.

I'm not sure why they want your home address, maybe to confirm you live in the UK, maybe to pass on to HMRC if they ever get asked who they are paying. Not entirely sure.

If you are on the main electoral roll anyone can find your address on 192.com for a small fee, so when I realised that I didn't have a problem handing it out anymore :)

It's stuff like this that I'm usually happier not knowing about XD

I understand what you mean though - I just have this paranoid mindset that makes me think people are actually going to come knocking on my door...

I don't mind giving out my name, address, anything. I am reluctant to give my children's names, sometimes, but that's modern-day paranoia I reckon.

I used to enter 1000 competitions a week, and my details would be pre-filled in a form-filling software I used. Never any issues, except now I get 300+ emails a day, mostly spam.

I have never had any problems. I have what I call a 'spam' mobile number which is just a spare sim I had that is in an old mobile phone. Anything I sign up online that requires a telephone number I use that. That way I never give out my home number or my personal mobile number to any site online or off line where I think I may get spam or unwanted phone calls.
You can opt out of spam/ junk mail if you are getting any by having to the Telephone Preference Service. Just google it online and it comes up and you opt out online for your postal address and phone number. We did that awhile ago and don't get much through and no sales calls either. You have to do it again after so many years can't remember how long the opt out lasts for.

Good idea on the spare sim - I think I have one of those somewhere! Will start giving out that one instead of my personal one :)

How appropriate is this study on Prolific Academic right now ?!

Examining the emotions of individuals evoked from voluntary disclosure of information

XD

I understand, I have anxiety.

When people knock on my door I look through the spyhole and then stand there silently if I don't know them/wasn't expecting them.

One a charity person stood there for 9 minutes. He clearly knew I was there ;D ;D ;D

I gave up on one mystery shopping application because they wanted to know the height, weight and dress size of everyone in my household :D the main one you have to worry about is your date of birth, knowing that alongside your name and address can mean whoever it is can access all sorts of information about you and make you vulnerable to fraud. Other than that I think its just up to you to decide what you feel comfortable with revealing about yourself, if it doesn't feel comfortable what they are asking just forget it and move on to the next thing

Sometimes if i sign up to things I'm unsure about I'll give a fake name, a spammy email address and an old number that I don't use anymore. If I get a lot of crap from them then I know not to continue with the site :)
