Hi guys.. there is some new thing coming in about data protection which i thought was something for big companies to worry about, then read the brief on an upcoming job on Roamler which states that we must get no people in the pictures required for the task due to a new thing called GDPR... given the subject of pics is a wine tasting stand in Tesco it would appear not possible to take a pic without the attendant at least in shot, also many tasks require shop front photos, good luck getting front of a tesco extra in shot with no people in view, so, if Roamler have this task limited by GDPR regulation would it stand to reason that every task on every app will have to adhere to these same rules (As i see it if so this marks the end or drastic photo requirement changes to Task apps or mystery shopping in general

Is this not a good thing then if you don't have to take numerous wide-angle photos for tasks anymore!!

well yes, if they dont want people in shots, but only want for example product/aisles etc, BME for instance the very first thing is a shot of outside, even at 2am you get people in that kind of shot LOL but very rarely in a task do you not get people in the pic, Can see people getting tasks rejected because a person is in a store and gets photographed... Many tasks you may have to take a pic of an entire aisle, that would be nigh on impossible... did one on monday in a furniture store, they wanted loads of overview shots, must have had 2 dozen people in those pics... Like the example Roamler one going live on saturday, it is more or less expecting you to take a pic of the wine tasting stand unattended at peak time on a saturday or will be rejected

I found this on one site about GDPR:
""What about taking photographs in public places – do I need clear consent from anyone who might appear in my photographs?
No. This is still ok within reason.
Using your common sense is essential here. If you’re going to capture and share controversial images or images that might cause offence to the people in them, you are leaving yourself open to hassle. Just be sensible.""

Not sure if this applies to photos used for work / task purposes though or just amateur photographers.
I think the critical thing is whether someone can be recognised from the photo by facial recognition software so I would guess that someone who was turned away from the camera would be OK but that's just my guess.

It's a bit of a minefield IMO and of course it's an EU directive so whether it survives Brexit is anyone's guess. As Jon says, it may be good for taskers as we won't be able to take the 30 pics some Roamler tasks demand ;)
