£350k would buy a perfect house in the country for me! Just seems to be a really bad time to even look just now - so few houses listed. Spring/Summer is definitely a better time. (I keep looking although no intention of moving this year).

Looks like today is a day of getting things done. New freezer delivered at 6:45am (they phoned at 6:25am  ), old radiator taken away which frees up our hallway again, waiting on plumber coming to look at the towel rail then going to try and clear out some of the house. May also build a snowman now there is 5" in front garden ;D

Sounds like a brilliant day [member=3120]Falanouc[/member] :)

So in the last 2 weeks I've decided I wanted to stop wearing glasses and switch to contact lenses

I'm sick of doing 4 or 5 fitness classes a week and struggling to see the instructor

I'm sick of driving the car and noticing a smudge on my glasses I can't do anything about

and i'm REALLY sick of being out in the rain wearing glasses which is just an absolute nightmare

So when I got back to work in January I booked an appointment at specsavers to see about switching. They did a few tests to see if my eyes could cope with contacts and then it was onto the 'training'

It was 30 minutes or utter frustration. I just couldn't get the damn things in my eyes as muscle memory just kept making me blink as soon as anything came near my eyes!

I even practiced at home with some of my wifes contacts but I still couldn't get them in.

I had my 2nd training session booked for this past wednesday and In all honestly I was planning to cancel it by Tuesday as I just couldn't deal with the frustration of not being able to do something!

The session started and the first 10 minutes were a repeat of last time and then the girl says we'll try a different method of sort of tipping them into my eye instead of going straight at them and BINGO!!

First time they go in, same with the left!!

I had to put them in and take them out 3 more times before I was allowed to take home a weeks worth of trial lenses to see how I find them all

Everything's been OK so far. I can do the right eye first time now but the left takes about 2 or 3 attempts!

It's so nice not to have to wear bloody glasses when I go out!!

Moral of the story... Don't give up!!!!

I have ortho K lenses which mean you wear them overnight and you take them out in the morning and you should have perfect sight all the next day. They are brilliant EXCEPT I can get the right one in fine but the left one.... ::) ::) It always takes 2 or 3 attempts to get the flamin thing in the right place!!!

I highly recommend laser surgery if your eyes are suitable. I got my eyes done in 2010 and it's the best thing ever. I love being able to see without glasses/contact lenses.

It was rather expensive, around £3000 (They offered interest free payment option). There were cheaper laser options but I was happy with what I was recommended. I chose to go with Optimax but also had a consultation with Optical Express who were a lot cheaper but I didn't get a good feeling with them (if that makes sense)

See £3000 isn't that much as you won't have to buy glasses / contact lenses ever again

Does it hurt when they do it?

Does it take multiple sessions?

What do they guarantee on it in terms of how many years it should last?

It doesn't hurt, feels odd having your eyes taped open but it really wasn't awful, it smells a little odd though! It's over very quickly and I noticed a difference straight away! I remember having to sit in a dark room for half an hour and being able to see the room near enough clearly. I had to wear silly glasses on the way home to protect my eyes and also had eye guards to tape on at night so I didn't run my eyes in my sleep. Within a couple of days I had perfect vision.

I had to go back for a checkup once, they discharged me then although I could have phoned to go back if I had any concerns.

I still need regular eye tests same as anyone else but I always wait till our local specsavers does free eye tests vouchers.

There was a possibility of it not working and needing a second session although that is rare. They said I migh need reading glasses when I'm elderly.

You should book a consultation, they used to be free so probably still are. No doubt they will have better technology than when I got mine done.

I have a cousin in America who had her eyes done over 20 years ago and she is still glasses free!

Sounds good

I'll think about it when we have some free money I could plough into that instead of home improvements lol

I'm due back at specsavers on Thursday to decide which 'package' I want but at the moment I'm thinking I might just go with the £10 a month 'monthlies' deal instead of the dailies one

Happy new year all, bit late to the party. Jan is a fresh start for me as I moved cities and left my part time job so I'm now working full time from home. Struggling to earn what I need to at the mo but we'll see how it goes, might have to look for another part time job eventually. So my plans for Jan are a bit of exploring of my new city and buying a few bits and pieces for my new flat to make it feel more like home :)

Just had my contact lense checkup

They are happy so I'm now on a direct debit scheme for monthlies at £13 a month which isn't too bad

I would love to be glasses free. Definitely need to save up for laser eye surgery.
I'm unsure on Laser Surgery. I hate wearing glasses but my eyes have an issue with contacts. I also worked with a guy who was the 1 in 10,000 who got dry eye. He would tell everyone it just wasn't worth it.
