I won't name the hosting site as the dodgy stuff was probably posted without their knowledge or the sites people were asked to visit in the tasks could have been hacked. Briefly, I did - or rather tried to do - a couple of seemingly easy tasks which involved logging into sites and staying there for a short while. The site in question had other tasks/surveys which were bona fide (that's what makes me think the site itself isn't bad). But I started getting pop-up ads saying I had a virus and other things wrong with my laptop and a robot voice telling me not to close my computer. Of course I did shut my computer and ran a scan which revealed my laptop to be clear of viruses. It seems to happen only on Chrome; I don't get the problem on Microsoft Edge. I did a bit of sleuthing on the internet and apparently the fake Mc....ee pop up scam has been around for a time. It's a darn nuisance. Clickworker likes gig workers to use Chrome and Appen does too if my memory serves me well. I've advised the hosting site about the problems I encountered. I just wondered if anyone else has ever come across anything similar?

BTW, the site where I met with the problems isn't Clickworker or Appen.

I've managed to remove the link to the scam pop up ads - fortunately there was a YouTube video showing how to go into Chrome's settings and do so.
