Many years ago when I was about 16 and first thinking about becoming self employed, I noticed something in a high street store that was selling for 5 x the price online. I can't remember what prompted me to look in the first place but I happened to notice what I could buy for £1 was selling for £5 so bought 5 of them. I remember feeling so excited that I could buy something for £1 and then sell it for £5 and make myself a little profit. I was probably only getting about £1 profit per item (about £5 max profit after selling all 5 items) after all the fees and postage though but it was the thrill of it. Until it all went downhill from there when someone decided to shame me on the platforms forum about the exact same item they had seen in the exact same shop that I had bought them from, with the price. The comments I received and the fact that everyone wanted their money back made me think twice about wanting to buy and sell online. So my little profit scheme was a failure as I had made a loss once everyone was refunded. People were saying how disgusting I was etc and it really hurt and being that young, I did think my actions were bad so I stopped buying to resell.
Fast forward many years later when I was getting fed up working for others as an employee and was toying with the idea of becoming self employed again. This time I was buying from places like car boots etc and built up an extreme appetite for stuff to resell as I found it completely enjoyable.
Out of curiosity last week, I decided to look on ebay to see what a certain item in poundworld was selling for and was astonished to see that was selling for 4 x its price online. And then I thought that many people must do this. It must be more popular than I think. In a way it's only like anyone really that buys to resell. What do you think? Do you think it's right to buy something from a shop to sell online for more money or do you think its wrong? Have you ever done this yourself?
