Hi guys,

Am new to this site, but not new to money making, I have been on EBay since 2004 and Amazon from around the same time. I have always been a bit of a Del Boy except I'm a Del Girl!
Always could walk in a charity shop and sniff out a bargain a mile off.
But ever since the Internet has been taken more seriously, the last couple of years I find there is a lot more enjoyable ways of earning money.
Second hand non fiction books on Amazon can make you good money, you can buy one for about 2.00 in a charity shop or boot fair and sell for 28.00 online making about 18.00 after fees and postage!
Anyway going back to the title of this topic, I have just exchanged and completed on a property in SELondon, it is only a studio flat but that's all I could afford, and it works out £300 cheaper a month in mortgage then for me to rent so no brainier really.
My aim is now to pay this mortgage £103,500 off within the next 10 years, I'm allowed to over pay by around
£9,000 a year, so I am going to be busy trying to find lots of ways to earn extra dosh ;D
I am already self employed and have been for some years so adding extra earnings on is relatively simple for me as I do my own accounts.
I am hoping to keep you all updated with my progress.
My proudest moment was when I picked my keys up for my flat as its took a lot of hard graft, I'm 44 and a single lady, who is self employed with my own business which I built from nothing ;D

also another question, can I be nosey and ask are you on a 25 year mortgage? Only reason I'm asking, I've just turned 40 and people keep telling me I won't be able to buy a house now as I won't be able to pay off a 25 year mortgage before I reach retirement age. Which is quite depressing.

Dear Sparkle and shine

I am a PA to the elderly or what some people still call carer, I visit people in their own homes give them breakfast, lunch, tea and then put them to bed, I always have a good steady stream of clients as we all get old, so my business is safe. I unfortunately work 7 days a week doing this and haven't had a day off in over 900 days!! ;D people think I'm mad but I wanted to achieve my goal of buying my own place and this could only be done by hard graft.
In response to Amazon and eBay I have a shop on eBay selling knitting patterns!!
My mortgage is for 25 years I put a 5000 pound deposit down as help to buy let me do this and my mortgage payments are 597 a month
Jo

Hi again

Done another blades check yesterday, only 2 miles away from me £5

While I'm there once I finished doing the blades check I do shopping for 2 of my clients so get paid for that £15

Visit another big retailer, buy dog clippers as mine have broke, bearing in mind I use them once a month and save myself £30 a time they've saved me a fortune.
£64.99 but got 3% off with top cashback Worth every penny! ;D

A quick update on my mortgage countdown, since joining this site 4 weeks ago I have earned an extra £198, bearing in mind I work long hours in my day job, so am quite pleased that I've managed to fit this extra work in. I find it fun and also reading this site everyday, I feel that I know you all personally. ;D.
To all those people out there that are on benefits and can't see an end in sight, that was me 15 years ago, I was also in a woman's refuge, at my worst hunting down the backs of sofas looking for enough to buy a loaf of bread, now I have a fantastic business which I started from scratch and earn a good income, and own my own home, so just shows it can be done. ;D

Hi Jeggle,
Like Sparkle above, I'm also in my early 40's so I'm pleased to hear my own home isn't out of reach. :)

So the caring job, is that your own business? I have a friend who used to do something similar - she had her own home help type business where she want into elderly people's homes and did light cleaning, a bit of cooking and some shopping etc. She did it for less than a year I think, before moving into part time employment. Don't think she found it very lucrative. Clearly you've made a great business out of it!

I've sold a few books online in my time but never any for £28! What trick am I missing?! I know you say non-fiction but would you say things like text books sell the best? Love the knitting patterns idea too. Are you a knitter yourself? My mum knits, bet she'd love you! ;D

Hi Cuba
Yes this is my own business and I'm lucky because I can charge the same as a care agency and there is always lots of work for me. If I do a 15 minute call (£5) or 30 minute call I always stay my time and don't leave early. As the saying goes some carers "walk in backwards"

I don't get much time to sell the books nowadays but I have the Amazon app on my phone and when I see a book that I think is good I will scan the isbn number or manually put it in and that will tell me what the cheapest used book for sale is. Yes text books are good especially medical books as students are always out to save money. I have sold all over the world to churches, well known supermarkets and television company's. I still get a buzz from selling a book which I bought for a pittance for good money.

I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago and I can't sit and do nothing and had to take 8 weeks off from work so I taught myself to knit and crochet. Crochet I love , and is so quick. When I bought patterns I noticed the toy patterns and miscellaneous ones commanded a good price, so I buy old mags for 10 to 50p and tear out carefully the patterns and I get way more then what the mag cost full price (easy money)

Thanks Jeggle, and well done on your company. Do you employ staff or do all the work yourself? If you've gone that long without a day off, maybe you need to employ someone so you can have a break!

I'm intrigued at you selling books to TV companies and supermarkets. 'Dummies Guide to Retail', perhaps? ;D

Only overpay by 10%, otherwise you get a penalty charge, but 10 % is fine by me as at the moment I'm trying to do it up high spec. ;D
