There has been so much publicity recently over coins that "are worth something". Usually over-inflated bid invitations by some E-Bay sellers trying to flog a few. Saying that, I am always looking out for interesting looking 50p's and £2's. I know I actually spent a Kew Gardens one, one of the ones that were actually worth something! I was wondering if anyone has got lucky with any coins before I just go ahead and spend my collection of 50p's. The £2.00's got spent long since!

Hi!

I collect coins has I work in retail and come across all the "special" coins and commemorative ones. Some coins are actually worth a bit more than there face value on eBay.

Other Than the well-known Kew Gardens which will be rare for you to come across again, there are some more that you should keep a look out for.

I have been collecting the paddington bear sets, the Paddington At The Palace and the Paddington At The Station and I have had 10 sets so far, which have all since sold on eBay for £3.49 plus £1.00 postage, leaving you with a profit of around £2 which might not seem much but with the amount of coins I come across it soon adds up, the paddington sets alone have netted me £20 plus all the other ones I sell on eBay!

The new Alphabet 10p's are definitely worth looking out for too, if you ger old of 4/5 you can easily sell them as a set for anything between £4-£10 depending on what letters they are!

I have sold 3 different sets of 5 (15 coins) I sold them at £5.99 each with £1.95 postage. This netter me about £5 profit per set totalling £15 profit.

Of course it does depend on their condition too, if they are in poor condition unless very rare they would be rendered worthless or FV, I always tend to only sell the ones with none or minor wear and tear and always state in the description that due to them being circulated coins they may be minimal minor wear and tear as this won't then disappoint the buyer up on arrival at their address!

Hope this helps, any other questions in regards to coins feel free to give me a message!

Thanks a lot for all that detail. I have to say I've never come across the lettered 10p. I gave one of those proof £2.00 that were done but they are worth nothing. If I ever found a coin worth something I'd faint from the shock!

Generally most are only worth face value. Sometimes there are a few more desired by collectors that might go for a little bit more but you have to do like @itsjordanwhite and come across them early in their life before they get scratched up in general circulation. I think some of the Beatrix potter 50p's might be worth checking.

I went through my £2 coin collection recently and most were selling on ebay for £2 to £3 plus postage. Hardly worth the effort of listing it and sending it out.

Gold and silver proof coins and older proof sets are the best investments imho. But like collecting stamps, it is a dying hobby. Millennials have no interest in Grandpa's farthing collection.

@saffi420

I will include a link below to a coin I sold today to show you the value of some of the coins.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173778436835

If you still have the coins, if you send some info to me and some pictures of a few I might be willing to take them off you and pay for them + postage? Give it a think.

Hi
I had a look at your link. I'm so annoyed with myself as I spent the majority of them yesterday. I do still have a few and I'll write them down tomorrow and let you know which. They are definitely nothing special I don't think. I looked on change checker and got rid of my VC ones, Peter Rabbit, Commonwealth Games and a couple of girl guiding ones. Off the top of my head I know I have a Bengimin Britten, WWF, 100yr Girl Guiding, Olympic swimmer (not the valuable one) but I can't remember the other couple. I used to sell on eBay a lot myself (not coins) but no longer do it. Thanks for reply.

Hi
Sorry for not getting back online as I promised with the details of the coins. Compared to what I had I have hardly any now, which I'm annoyed about!
The remaining ones I have are:
Post "facegate" swimmer
Taekwondo
Benjamin Britten
Rifleshooter
Jeremy Fisher
Benjamin Bunny
Floppy bunny
WWF
100 year girl guide
Tailor of Gloucester
As you can see, not a great haul. Obviously the BP coins are quite new and shiny but the older ones are well used and hardly attractive looking.
I may just as well spend them I think but thanks for your interest.
Kind regards.

Hi, I got a Charles Dickens £2.00 coin in my change yesterday and that prompted me to take a look at what other coins I have lurking about. So in no particular order here is my £2.00 collection.

2015 Magna Carta
2016 Britannia
2009 Robert Burns
2009 Charles Darwin
2001 Marconi
2012 Charles Dickens
2015 Navy Battleship
2014 two off WW1 Kitchener

I have always kept funny looking coins when I get them. It's not for profit or investment as I know nothing about coin values, it's just for fun. I shall now have a look at my 50p collection. I have quite a few 50p's sitting in an old box doing nothing.

Oh dear, I sound like a sad coin nerd

You've been busy! I spent all my £2.00 coins, wished I hadn't but needs must, at the time, and one of them was also a Charles Dickens. Same with most of my 50p ones as well. Oh well, if one turns out to be worth a fortune I hope I don't find out about it!

I am on a roll :D
Today I got a bright, new, shiny 2018 Mrs Tittlemouse 50p coin in my change !!!
She can keep my two Mrs Tiggy Winkle 50p's company.

I decided to see how many 50p's I have in my little box so I counted them for the first time. Turns out I have 30 x 50p coins

Seriously sad coin nerd I am.

I have just this very minute received a 2006 Brunel £2.00 coin to add to my little boxes collection.

I'm beginning to think that I have a coin hoarding problem
