Hi,

I joined a thing called Paid Survey Update, which seems to be a middle-man for other survey companies. Some of them are obviously scams/useless/to be avoided, like Paid Surveys From Home, who want $68 "One Time Payment!" (Whoop whoop, Lol) but some of their links include the names of companies, and one of them was for the US part of Pinecone, another for Clixsense, so at least some of the companies they send through must be genuine.

Obv, I'm not about to sign up with anyone through their links and make Paid Survey Update money, so I thought I'd be best off asking here about some of the companies I've seen on their emails. I'll do separate threads for each of them to avoid confusion.

So, firstly, has anyone any experience of a company called MindsPay?

Have you had a look at some of the money making challenges each month: http://www.themoneyshed.co.uk/index.php?topic=5132.0 (for this month).

What I have done is looked a few of these and see where other people are making their money; not only does it give great ideas and show you an idea of what you can earn, but means that you know other people are doing it too which is always more reassuring.

For example [member=2166]bouboumum[/member] has just posted about earning on points panel which is something I have never heard of, so i've googled it and it looks like it is worth joining.

Hi, thanks for the tag. Yes, PointsPanel is an app that runs in the background of your phone and earns you points. It is just a small trickle but given that you don't have to do anyhting other than redeeming your payment, it's not bad really.

No, I haven't heard Paid Survey Update, but I saw and ad in Facebook for something similar today - a survey site that asks you to subscribe to other survey sites (genuine ones). I don't really understand how it works, not sure if it is genuine either.

[member=2532]EmilyDav[/member] - at the moment, I'm still trawling through survey sites, and my head's fit to bust with processing all the information I've gathered or been kindly given by [member=920]katykicker[/member] or via feedback from other members, but I will get round to it at some point.

I'm prone to charging in like a bull in a china shop, so am trying to be more methodical in my approach. Once I've got all the survey companies set up, I'll look at other ways to make money or get rewards. Thanks for the tip, I appreciate it :)

[member=2166]bouboumum[/member] - I'm guessing they're a third party middleman outfit that get a percentage for every sign up made via the links they send out. No idea if that affects the points or rewards you get from the company you sign with, but feel that signing direct is the way to go, IF the site checks out :)

in that case [member=3131]FunkyChick[/member] i'm sure [member=920]katykicker[/member] has already said this; but my biggest advice would be to keep everything on a spreadsheet; all the companies you registered with; their links; you balances and how much that is worth; and then update it at every opportunity; there is nothing more motivating than seeing your figures rise; it also helps you monitor what is working for you.

There is a link in my signature to some of my favourite websites :)

I would say with surveys far better to look here and check out what others think :) If you have some specific questions on individual websites you can either @ me here or send a PM. I do a lot of surveys, and other things, so I'm happy to help :)

[member=2532]EmilyDav[/member] - yes indeed, Katy has advised that a spreadsheet is the way to go. I'm sure it's very easy to do, but I have yet to look at how to do one. Keeping everything on paper and email at the moment, and I might do things the old fashioned way in a ledger or similar. The websites all keep a tally of account balances too, so I suppose I could always print those out if I needed to.

Am doing most of this on a very full ipad, and no idea if ipad software includes a spreadsheet, and even less idea about IOS productivity software than I have about Windows. My laptop runs Windows 8, which I'm not getting on with at all well, just one issue after another. Very frustrating every time I use the laptop.

It's something I'm going to have to look into properly. You all seem to do spreadsheets, and I'm keen to take onboard all the tips and advice I'm getting, so thankyou for mentioning this. I'll get there in the end. Bf says Google Drive is the way to go for simple spreadsheets.

[member=920]katykicker[/member] - thanks Katy, I pm'd you earlier! Lol. You've been a massive help to me so far. Thankyou :)

[member=1]Jon[/member] - Yikes!!!! Have heard that's even worse than Windows 8!!!!

Bring back XP, I say! (Shakes fist)

Being an, ummm, slightly older member, I was used to Win 98SE then Win XP, and all software like Word coming pre-bundled with the computer. I hate these apps. Fine for phones, but I don't get on with them on my laptop. My email app refuses to work - was working fine to start with, then for no reason at all, it just announced it wasn't going to be sending any more emails. Haven't been able to resolve it, so if I do email on the laptop, I have to do it online, which is a pain.

And the endless updates!!!! I had what I thought was a huge 1TB hard drive, have barely anything on it, yet it's being rapidly filled up with updates and apps and photos. Oh, I miss the computers of the 90's!

Although I do love my ipad.....but can't print from it, nor add extra storage.

Think I'll go get my quill and ink out.......

[member=3131]FunkyChick[/member] I'm also a slightly older member and was more than happy with my old laptop which ran Vista. And then it died! So I had to buy a new one running windows 8, which I played around with for a few weeks, hated, so when the free windows 10 came out, I upgraded. Apart from a few extra bells and whistles, it isn't that different, but seems a lot more stable. If you aren't getting on with 8, then going to 10 isn't going to be a backward step. Plus if you really don't like it, you can revert back to 8 easily.

[member=224]Topaz[/member] - Thanks :)

Bf's computer has been asking him if he wanted to upgrade to Win8.1, he repeatedly said "No", then one day it just downloaded, with nothing he could do to stop it! I really don't like Microsoft. I don't like it that they force things on you. No choice, just, "You're 'aving it, mate!"

If I could afford it (or WHEN we can afford it, I should say) we'll be on Mac computers. Sick of the endless updates, none of which I ever understand, despite trying to make sense of the details you can read if you want to, which fill my laptop up. Every time I turn the thing on, it wants to download more updates. I turned updates off for a while, but then thought I might be missing something crucial, so put them back on again. I can do without my laptop self-destructing in the middle of the night!

I confess, at the risk of appearing very dim, that I can never make head nor tail of their help files, either. They never help me at all!

Apple does an occasional update, isn't prone to viruses, and let's face it, Apple stuff is a lot sexier than MS's!

I'm reluctant to "upgrade" to Win10......I'm reasonably computer savvy, but am a bit out of my depth with reverting to previous Windows platforms ever since I bought a laptop with the awful Vista on it, on the basis that it would come with a disc for XP and would be easy peasy to install. It wasn't, and I was stuck with Vista, which is possibly THE worst platform they ever produced.

I really hate being beaten by things, so I'll persevere with my Win8 or 8.1 or whatever it is. I haven't got a touch screen laptop, and I'm still navigating my way round everything. I think the thing I resent most is how they've changed everything. I used to know how to get to My Computer, what I could do there, all that, and it's now called something different and is somewhere not obvious. Ditto everything else. Drives me mad.

I think I need to go and find that old "Throw Pies At Bill Gates" game, and vent my frustrations on that!

Ah well. Such is liff.

Is the layout on 10 the same as on 8/8.1?

Ha! Seems the once free online Pie Bill Gates In The Face game is now a download, and a payable one at that.

Not paying for it! Shan't! So there! Lol

When you click the widows bottom left with windows 10, the icons don't fill the whole page like in windows 8, but to be honest, I don't really venture onto the apps/icons bit. I just use the desktop. Daughter upgraded to 10, didn't like it and went back to 7. She said you can take it back for a month, she can't remember exactly how, but it was in the pop up start menu somewhere and easy to do.
