That makes perfect sense, thank you for explaining it so eloquently @Pbrail :). I don't do many in-play bets as I can't always be on the pc at the time and the odds change too quickly for me. I have been caught out before in the past through that.

I know the general consensus is to wait until half-time, which I tend to do on the rare occasions I attempt them.

Yeah, I'm not keen on In Play either. I usually do like you and place at half time. Everyone says the bookies love you doing them, not sure how true that is but I hate them :p

I have placed in play bets but not as matched bets. Does OM have the details for them or is it a matter of hoping you are right?

I'm not sure I understand the question. Hoping what is right? You mean finding things on Oddsmatcher?

In play bets are the same as regular bets in that you are Laying them off against the Exchange as normal. What makes them spicier is that during a match the odds are a) a lot more volatile and can be hopping about a lot and b) the risk is higher that a goal will be scored after you've placed your Back bet, but before you've placed your Lay (which can either work to your advantage or screw you over royally).

That's why you wait till half time - there is no risk of a goal being scored and the odds are a little less volatile.

Oddsmatcher can give you a clue of what's relatively close, but due to the speed that the odds move about, you're basically going to have your bookie window and exchange window open next to each other as Oddsmatcher can't realistically keep up with the changes.

Thanks - that pretty much explains it but I cant see how to do in play on oddsmatcher on PA. I need to read up more I think.

It's possible Oddsmatcher won't pick them up at all, tbh, I've never looked - I always match manually in play. Oddsmatcher tends to only check every few minutes I think, whereas InPlay odds, outside of Half Time, will be moving almost constantly - so even if something did show in Oddsmatcher, it would almost certainly have changed by the time you got there.

Just have the bookie and the exchange window open next to each other. Watch what direction odds are moving in for a bet (it'll either be slowly ticking downwards or upwards depending on market), and then go to the calculator and do the maths based on one tick higher or lower than what's current. This allows you to calculate your Lay stake and hopefully get the Lay on before the market has moved again and you have to recalculate.

There's a reason people find InPlay matched betting more of a pain than pre-game. It's because it's a bit more hard work to get a good odds match.

yep, you're on your own if your betting in play. The odds matchers stop once the match/race goes live and even if they did have inplay the delay would make it useless anyway, the odds move so fast.
