One of the drawbacks of looking on the internet for information about online work is that one comes across YouTube videos made by rogues and scallywags who tell the most outrageous lies - grossly exaggerating the amount of money that can be made in the 'gig' economy for example - or making out that some of the transcription sites which are really side hustles are viable as a work from home full-time job. I'm not saying transcription can't be a worthwhile job but people need to build up their own clientele rather than work as sub-contractors for it to be truly profitable. I've done it in the past (to top up my pension) and as I've said elsewhere I'm trying to hammer out a sensible profile to put on to fiverr (or similar websites). There are a few YouTube channels about jobhunting which are genuine to be fair.
But my online searches about work from home jobs have caused the YouTube algorithm to bring the dreaded "free course" adverts. Of course we all know how those work. The first episode would be free but if you wanted to take it further you'd have to part with some of your hard earned. Like I said recently - it may even have been on this board - if I see that lady who is "no author" but has made oodles of boodle selling books on Amazon again I think I'll have the screaming habdabs. (If that lady visits this site, sorry I don't want to sound rude but my late mother dragged me up to be honest). I know YouTube needs the ads to keep its service free but I want to earn money not spend money on somebody's course that I'm not interested in and might not have an aptitude for. It's not just the lady who sells books on Amazon though - there's myriads of folks trying to flog their courses.
I hope I don't sound as if I'm pooh-poohing ALL courses in general but I'm a tad sceptical of these characters who are all over YouTube like a rash showing their "proofs of payment" (do they really think viewers don't know those can be faked?) and of course I could earn loads o' loot too if I pay them to learn their secret(s). I don't know if there's anyone else here who is old enough to remember Ben Elton introducing a show called 'Saturday Night Live'. The comedian Harry Enfield used to portray a personnage called "Loads o' Money" who used to chuck money around "I've got money, loads of it" (though I'm sure Harry Enfield didn't throw real money around). The YouTube touters of courses with their 'proofs of payment' make me think of Harry Enfield going "I've got loads o' money".
Rant over fellow visitors to the MoneyShed. I hope I didn't wear you out - or make you think "What a misery and moaner"!!!
