Right, I thought I'd break myself gently into some new earning opportunities, so I've signed up for 5 survey sites. I realise that being screened out is a pretty common experience, but as a single man with no children, I'm already getting the impression that I'm not quite what they are after.

So, should I get married and have some kids (figuratively speaking) before I sign up for any more? I'm guessing it might improve my hit rate if I were to do so and maybe make one or two lifestyle changes as well.

Does anyone know if it's possible to make yourself seem more desirable survey-wise or is it just a matter of biding my time and all of the surveys aimed at unmarried, childless men will eventually seek me out?

No keep honest and consistent with your answers then you will get some through eventually. You will get more if you stay consistent and honest with your answers. Even though I am married have no kids and am at home I still get plenty of surveys to complete so it isn't necessarily true that you will get more by saying you are married and with kids. There are always going to be some surveys that want that but not every single one. If there are too many of that profile you would still get screened out of the survey anyway.
Honesty does pay.

I would personally say 'add the kid'

I have changed my setup based on what I am applying for. I will say I use products I don't necessarily use to get accepted into a survey/audit/focus group etc.

I agree with Jon.

Just make sure you remember said kid in all of your surveys. Create a profile & stick to it. Be consistent.

I get plenty of surveys that I actually can complete without having to lie about having kids or anything, in fact in this last year my survey earnings have increased significantly so there has been no need for me to be make anything up. There are many double checks done throughout the survey on what your income is etc so it can be easy to forget something that you said earlier then you get thrown out out of the survey without getting paid.
Stretching something slightly like the brand you use fair enough but I wouldn't attempt to lie on my demographics just to qualify.

Thanks for the advice everyone. :)

I'd like to be honest if I can - if only because it makes things so much easier - but I think I might break out the kids for the next few survey sites I sign up to & just see if it makes any noticeable difference. I'm being careful not to exaggerate my earnings or anything like that as I don't want to end up confusing myself with what I've said where, but I think I might take queen81's advice & create a profile to stick to.

Obviously, I'll stick to being me on the sites I've already signed up to, so I'll post back & let everyone know if my newfound status as a parent brings in more survey work or not.

Well, 2 months down the road I haven't "acquired" any children (that sounds so wrong ;D), but I have stretched the truth a little at times (I've "acquired" numerous electronic gadgets & financial products, & been on a few foreign holidays without even getting up from my PC).

I'm sure that I have missed out on a few extra surveys by not doing this, but I have to say that actually the volume of work has been quite good in any case. I've cashed out £40 from Global Test Market in just under 2 months & have just requested £15 from EDU. My OnePoll balance is up to £33 (cash out at £40) and I have several smaller amounts building up with other sites. Considering I only signed up at the start of August, it's not a bad return for what amounts to very little work (I find I can keep up with most of it in front of the TV of an evening, so it doesn't really eat into the rest of the day).

I guess most people who earn with these sites already do this, but one thing I have found useful is creating a word doc with a sort of "poll profile" in it, just to collate all the little white lies I have occasionally resorted to. Whilst I'm sure there's a limit to how much cross-checking each site can do, it makes sense to try to keep all your answers as consistent as possible.

Anyway, thanks for all the advice in this thread everyone. It's been much appreciated. ;)
