Great OP and burnout is a serious problem for home money making schemes. I used to do a lot of survey sites a few years ago - too many - and suffered burnout and had to stop doing them. This included losing my position in PineCone which I used to really enjoy and find interesting with the product testing.

Easing myself back into it again now as an added extra income and hopefully will be able to get into Pinecone and find some other similar companies assuming I have not been blacklisted!

Excellent advice :)

Burning out is something i'm a tad worried about! The motivation to earn extra money will never leave me, but if I'm not earning much or not getting any tasks from apps (like field agent, streetspotr, ipoll and streetbees) I get really disheartened. But I'm determined to stick it out. So long as I make a little bit extra every month, that's good enough for me :)

Some great advice, Jon.

I think everyone attempting to make extra cash online has probably got a little overexcited when discovering a new avenue of income so 'not putting all of your eggs in one basket' is a great tip.

Brilliant advice - especially about the blogging

I have a blog which has taken ages to take off, and finally getting there, but mainly concentrating on a forum now - over 150 registered users but hardly many posts.

Persistence is key - and providing value. You don't get something for nothing

Great tips, thanks.
Like other the people have posted, I too used to do a lot of different survey sites and trial sites but got fustrated at lack of surveys and screenouts. This also led to me loosing my membership on some of the sites due to inactivity.

I'm now back and hoping to give things another go with a different attitude and differ t attack plan. This forum and Twitter etc has been very helpful with that attitude and direction.

Interesting insights - thank you all for sharing.

I already invest my time in stock photography and ebay but hope to add some supplimental income from other online avenues. Stock photography requires perserverence as there are increase in income levels once you attain certain sales volume criteria. Is this something that is prevalent with apps like Roamler/Field Agent?

Thanks

Great tips. I have already found surveys to be very repetitive and can get boring quickly so remembering why I am doing it should help!

Thanks for the great tips Jon. I've been wanting to try and earn a little money on the side but always been a bit apprehensive about registering as not sure whether they are legit or just wanting to spam or scam you left, right and centre but this site has been of great help as I'm reading reviews of apps/sites on different threads.

Thanks for the advise. I use a couple of survey sites and it takes an age for pay out.

After a week the survey sites I like are:

GTM (you do get kicked out frequently but they do offer a lot of surveys), Panelbase (reached 1st payout already), OnePoll, YouGov (although it will take a long time to get to the 5000 points) and PopulisLive (pays thhe best).

Sites that need more time:
ProlificAcademic - hasn't had many surveys I'm eligible for

Sites I don't like:

OpinionWorld - just horrible - wants you to take chairty surveys about 90% of the time.

Hi [member=2613]mcp[/member] - I'm the self appointed survey guru... So here are a few small tips:

ProlificAcademic: Sign up to the TMS alerts thread: http://www.themoneyshed.co.uk/index.php?topic=3672.new#new There are LOTS of helpful people that post when a new study is live. You'll need to be on your email promptly for the alerts to avoid missing out as I've seen studies with 200+ people fill up in under 15 minutes.

OpinionWorld: A lot of the charity surveys are profile surveys for upcoming projects. I personally get charity surveys less than once a month, and only one. It seems that OpinionWorld is hit and miss for people. Some of us get all paid surveys and some people just keep getting charity surveys. I would suggest plodding on for a few more weeks and if you don't start getting access to the paid work (I've had focus groups, product trials etc) then I would suggest you just scrap it. Seems that if it is going to allow you into the paid surveys it does it within a few weeks. I think [member=117]Blackpepper1[/member] had the same problem as you, not sure if things ever changed, so sometimes just worth considering axing one like that x

Yes. I had trouble never any paid surveys from Opinion World. Lasted a few months and no change so I scrapped it in the end. Opinion World is very hit and miss as to whether you get paid surveys or not. KatyKicker is one of the lucky ones that do well from it and get plenty of paid surveys to cash out on a regular basis.
