Ways to keep kids occupied

Kids constantly want to do stuff. What ways have you with kids got to keep them occupied?
There are some great colour in posters and colour in tablecloths on my website that are fun for kids, or are kids today just happy to play on their DS or whatever new electronic toy/game is around or even happy perhaps just texting! Oh the life we all had before all of that. The games we played every half term me and my sister and brothers would get the board games out. If the sun was out we would be outside playing in the garden all day!

My kids love being out in the rain.. the mad lot. The bigger the puddle, the bigger the splash, the louder they giggle.

I just love it when the kids play and use their imagination and not rely on the TV and other electronic stuff for entertainment. The things they do and say sometimes stop me in my tracks. You just have to smile. Such as the other day my little lad (age 4) was running around and I stopped him to ask if he would look after daddy while I went out for a run. Something I always ask him to do (seems to keep him from causing too much mischief). He looked at me and said 'mummy don't go. if you go in the dark I will never see you again'. Erm, where did that come from. He had a moment of clinging to my leg and then started neighing like a horse and trotted off to harass his sister.

There are times though where they need to just sit and veg instead of tearing around like mad things. A bit of TV for downtime is sometimes a god send That little bit of quiet would be marvellous
