Seriously, [member=920]katykicker[/member]? That's appalling. Hope you contacted them insisting they take it down.

Had a similar case tonight in the FB group where someone has had something taken :(

Good. Why do people think they can do it? They wouldnt steal something from a shop so why do they think they can steal content? Baffles me

They think they can do it because well, what is anyone REALLY going to do about it.

They find content written elsewhere - they think, i know I Will write about that now and hey presto, your content v2 is now out there and is probably the first version of it seen by THEIR audience

But then those people must be incredibly naive - they must know that stealing has consequences and if caught, action will be taken. Much like if you stole some tech from PC World or the like - you would know that if you got caught, you're going to get in trouble.

Some people just like the thrill of the risk I suppose

Some people have no imagination. I'm starting to think if I titled a post 'I'm a fucking mug' this same person would just go ahead and do the same - while barely paying attention.

At least I know I'm getting in first & my viewers are jumping up massively.

Geolotto sending that e-mail about free to play games ending just after I finished my Blog post about earnings received from that. Not changing it now so just means another post has had to be written and scheduled.
Just happens on the very day I am writing a Blog Post too.

Is there really nothing you can do about stolen content? I would have thought there were rules and stuff.

Yes, there is :) A cease and desist usually does the trick, beyond that it would be court action for copyright infringement which can get very expensive, particularly when the other party would inevitably lose. People seem to think that feigning ignorance is a legal defence, it isn't!

Last year I found a website that was stealing work I was writing for someone and posting it as their own. It appeared to be getting copied over automatically by a bot. In the end I contacted the host and they shut the website down. I'll probably contact the website host next time someone directly copies my work word for word. Especially when I can provide them with the IP address of that person reading the specific articles on my website.

I've got it all sorted now. :)

The Tories winning and amount of cuts expected.

I would just wait and see. Everything is hearsay right now. I read an article today that said the NHS would be scrapped next month, some people will believe anything ;D

I have a LOT of health problems and attend several different consultant led clinics most months, in the time the Tories have been in I've had fantastic healthcare, all my expensive drugs approved for funding and even fertility treatment. This is despite people telling me 5 years ago when they got in 'oooh, you'll never get fertility treatment now as it is non-essential'. Also they've raised the tax threshold quite a bit and made it much easier for me to be self-employed. :) I'm happy to wait and see what they do. No-one ever likes all the changes but the fact is that the economy isn't great and why should we keep overspending continuously and leave the problems for the future?!

Your right we will have to see however one of the reason i wanted labour to win was due to the tuition fees they said they would reduce them and since they lost they are still £9000 a year. Which is putting me off going uni.

Can I just ask why do you expect university to be free/cheap? Isn't it a pathway, in most cases, to a considerably higher salary.

For example 7 years at medical school - 100k. But then decent salaries in specialised fields quickly rise to 100k.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing just curious why you think it should be free/cheap? X

I don't think anyone should expect uni to be cheap. However, I do feel the jump from £3000 a year to £9000 was ridiculous.
I also think fees should be the same for all students. I attend Cardiff University and some of my Welsh friends are paying 3k a year. I just don't understand how that is fair when they are on the same course as me.

English students do not get reduced fees if they study in England.
(I don't feel they should. I think everyone should just pay the same.)

/rant :p

Baby name stealers... Especially when they 1. Deny you've ever said the time - when you still have the text and 2. Kindly remind you how 'you're not even pregnant' as if you've not been trying for over 6 years!!!

Ahh this is a tricky one! 2 weeks before my daughter was born a colleague of my partners called their daughter Evie (the name we wanted) it completely took the wind out of my sails for me - even so when she was born we had a few names we tried to call her including Evie and found it didn't really fit

We then discovered we 'stole' (completely unknowingly) our daughters name from someone else 1 week before theirs was born and they called theirs something else. That same couple had a boy 2 months ago and have unintentionally stolen the name we wanted for our baby boy. But this time we're going to stick with it - unless I change my mind when he's born of course!

Try not to let it piss you off too much, cos the chances are when you do get pregnant, and the baby is born, it will look nothing like the name you've had in your mind for ages anyway and you'll have to pick another name anyway :)

Thanks, it's happened more than once and just bit disheartening...

Still, hopefully want something different come the time. I did look at the name and have seen that it is becoming popular now (Elliott/Elliot) so I'll probably go off it anyway! X

I didn't even know name stealing was a thing!

Surely once you name a child a few weeks / months / years down the line it doesn't even matter if someone you know named their child the same name

It does if that person, or those people, are the sort who will 'dig you out' for copying their name...

For example I just know one of the people will say 'aww Katy has used the name of the best child in the word....' and then bang on about it forever.

After 6 years of disappointments and shit this year is meant to be our year and finally I tell people things and they then feign ignorance. Even when I can show the exact message where I said it, and to add insult to injury, they didn't even really lke the name when i said it and was a bit rude! Still, I've had my rant, I can't change things so meh.

We had this happen to us. A friend fell before us (we'd been trying 1.5yrs, she'd just come off the pill) and decided on Ethan for a boy even though we'd told everyone our choices; she knew because we're close. She went on to have a girl and we found a new name we liked anyway; Ethan had become too popular too.

What is worse is being told that one of your parents don't like the name you picked  He couldn't be anything else though, his names suits him.
