Re: What have you won/received free today?

Yesterday, I had a letter from That's Life magazine to say that I'd won £1000! Yes, a grand! It was from one of their puzzles in issue 24.

I've sent them the obligatory mug shot for the mag, and the cheque is in the post - happy days :)

That is fantastic. :)

How does everyone get all these prizes and free things - is it all comps?

Comping, freebies and product trials.

Mine are mostly from online competitions. I spend a few hours in the evening entering comps while watching the goggle box.

Re: What have you won/received free today?

I have started comping this week. I have set up an email address just for comping.

Decided to give it a whirl for a couple of weeks until school breaks up as my MSEing has just finished and I don't want to commit to anything until at least Sept. Spending the summer with my girls is far more important than topping up my offline wage.

Ah I see, if I remember from when I tried to enter comps before... Don't you need to submit your home address/number as part of the info before you know you've won anything? As that puts me off a bit.

Re: What have you won/received free today?

I am not entering ones that ask for facebook follows, tweets or home address as I am reluctant to give away too much about myself. Hence the dedicated email. It does limit what I can enter but so what, my project = my rules.

Re: What have you won/received free today?

I give out my address and number for all sorts. I used to get loads of spam before that. Companies use auto-diallers too so if you're going to get crappy calls you will :)

I like to play fast and loose ;)

I agree. Not worth getting spammed for a few freebies. [emoji4]

Re: What have you won/received free today?

Spam will usually happen regardless. I'm talking about a lot more than a few freebies though, so it is worth it for me.

I've got both an address and a telephone number that I've NEVER given out to anyone and I still get missed calls and spam in the post :)

(Not my home address and not my main telephone number).

Re: What have you won/received free today?

I have no problem giving out my address details on competition forms and have never had any problems from doing so, and I've been comping for over 30 years, but it's down to personal choice at the end of the day.

I do have a mobile dedicated to comping, so that I don't get people calling me on my personal or home phone - although I rarely get junk calls. Maybe one every month or two.

The one downside to comping online is the spam emails - I get literally hundreds a day! But with a robust filter system in place it doesn't take long to sort out the wheat from the chaff.

Oh, and every courier/postman in the area knows who I am! I frequently get stopped while I'm out and about by men in vans asking me if I'm going to be home later ;)

Re: What have you won/received free today?

Lol [member=920]katykicker[/member], I was chatting to a friend once and a van pulled up and the bloke leaned out of the window and shouted 'Ere, love, are you going to be home in a bit because I've got something big for you!' The look that my friend gave me was priceless!!

Re: What have you won/received free today?

Yeah it is choice.
Like I said my project = my rules.
If you are getting spam maybe you should register at mailing and telephone preference services, as I have and don't get nuisance calls and junk mail.

Re: What have you won/received free today?

I'm registered with TPS and various companies. It doesn't stop those ruthless foreigners who ring me up and phone companies have no way of stopping those.

I don't mind the spam as I have a dedicated number for work and that is the only line I answer international calls on (I have to for work purposes).

Usually it is the case that once one company gets hold of your number they just sell it on and sell it on. Even if you answer no or untick any boxes. Now I get the spam I figure might as well go in for everything.

If I didn't get any calls or junk mail then I'd be a bit more careful :)
