Hi @katmonkey. I don't think there's a best way. I suspect most proofreaders have various ways in which they got into it. Mine was mainly via a few proofreading jobs I found on Craigslist some years ago. I don't have a proofreading qualification or what would be considered a relevant degree.
My laptop stopped charging on Friday, so had to take it to a computer shop. It's been fixed. Picked it up today.
The gift in this is that the lack of a laptop forced me to use my mobile phone to proofread online. I've used my mobile for this on occasion, but not as much as I did while I was without a laptop.
It wasn't ideal (small screen/keypad), but it was doable. My online income therefore didn't take as much of a hit. I mean, I didn't make as much as I could have with my laptop at my disposal, but I didn't lose as much as I could have without it.
I also received some money from Neevo (task-based site) for work I did a while ago.

I've been doing somewhat better on MTurk since last month. There were also batches of tasks I did last month that have recently been getting approved, so good times. / MTurk can be unpredictable, so I don't know what my earnings there will be like next month, or from month to month, but I'm pleased with how things have been going. / I hope I get one or two more payments before the month's out. Just depends on whether some of my tasks get approved and when.
I know I have been gone for a while and many of you will be wondering why I've been so quiet.
Some of you are aware, due to circumstances of what has been going on, but now it's time to let everyone know.
Back at the end of September I was diagnosed with metaplastic breast cancer. I've had such a whirlwind that I haven't really been able to take it all in. I was told I would need surgery, then Chemo and the
