Yeah.... you start to recognise the pattern. UW works for him, which is great. Luckily I've not seen an influx of FB friends all suddenly posting the same type of shit.

You know having gone back and re-read the first post on this thread and in reality not a lot has changed for me sadly.

It's still very much an uphill battle to get people to

a) Accept there is big money to be made outside surveys

b) It's OK to do things outside your comfort zone

c) WhatUsersDo aren't going to hack into your computer because you let the software record your screen for 4 minutes while you click around the Tesco website!

d) Matched Betting WILL NOT damage your credit rating anymore than going to a supermarket and buying a loaf of bread would!

one of the biggest battles I'm finding at the moment is that there is a bit of an uprising if that's the term of a community of money hungry people who get EXTREMELY excited about earning 80p for a yougov survey and can using 9 smartphone apps to get 35p taken off their tin of heinz soup at the till.

They post this stuff and then other people are amazed so when I then come along and say 'Well look if you download BeMyEye/Roamler etc you can hoover up a few hundred quid a week depending on where you live in the country' it all just tends to fall on deaf ears because anything 'big money' they have been exposed to tended to have a MLM link to it..

Sometimes people are just cautious. I can see the benefits of MB but wont risk £100s in liability just yet in case I make a mistake. I know the system works, it is my actions that keep me doing small amounts at the moment. I wont give up surveys yet - some sites I don't use now but not all of them - as they still bring in an extra £20 - £30 a week and are done when I am watching the TV.

I like surveys too. Don't tell Jon though he seems to hate them with a passion :p

Don't give up on matched betting - you control the liability, it doesn't have to run to hundreds of pounds, especially if you avoid the horsies. You're right to be cautious, it can be expensive if you make a mistake (we've all made more than one, or if you're anything like me more than one a month...!) but it does get easier the more you do.

I always think you don't hate things naturally.

I spend years doing bloddy surveys and just hit the wall with them as the pay got less and the length of them got longer lol

Everything was literally heading in the wrong direction with them!

what stresses me is people moaning about not having money, then just not doing anything about it
People say, oh how have you done that, so I say, then its like oh i just can't be bothered.
Well stop whining then! (That is what i say in my mind lol)

Just on that note.

Another thing that 'grinds my gears' is the concept of 'be frugal first' instead of earn extra money and then you don't have to cut corners in your life.

I know it's probably about the people not knowing HOW to earn money and instead knowing to buy cucumbers from aldi instead of Tesco and saving themselves 40p but always think you can only be SO FRUGAL before you end up eating utter crap just to save money each month!

And breathe...

The problem is that advertisers and marketing have got smart over the years and there are lots of people out there who don't realise the way they shop for example is very expensive compared to how they could shop. I'm not talking about downgrading your food and more of the extremes. I mean really the average person is too busy to give it too much thought. Add in all the squeezes on income recently and a general lack of money education around and you have the perfect opportunity for people to be hoodwinked into spending far more than they need.

It's all catching up now though with the tons of TV programmes around and people are getting wise to it. As usual TV is behind the pace and keep rolling out these programmes even though I think people are already generally wise to it and are ready for the next level.. I mean it will be an ongoing battle with advertising etc.

The other problem is there just are so many scams out there (and I am not just talking about money making ones). Again it's something that people in general haven't been wise to and there is loads of information coming out to educate people. So yes, the side effect of it is that everyone is now very sceptical of anything. I would say I am suspicious of anything that sounds too good to be true, but if you do your homework properly then you can avoid scans. Trouble is most people can't be bothered..

Some people just like to complain (I mean we are British right?!) and others like to complain and just aren't motivated to do anything about it. Fine with me. I am happy to help anyone that wants it and I'm not bothered about people who don't want to help themselves.

I actually haven't told anyone about the money I make on the side. I haven't purposely kept it secret though. I didn't tell my husband much for a while and he knew a was doing a few surveys etc. He thought it was all a waste of time and laughed at me doing things for a few pence. After a few months I told him how much I was making and he was shocked, interested and now is very supportive of it all!

yeah to be fair I barely tell ANYONE about earning money online as it's just not worth the hassle (or backlast!), especially in my current work environment!

Its too seperate things.

Some people like being frugal - making what they have last longer/be cheaper

Some people like making money - Increasing their lot

Lots of people are frugal as it takes not much effort and they believe that having half-ply toilet paper and the weakest tea/coffee known to man, makes the 'savings' they get worth while.

On the other hand, some people spend 45 minutes doing surveys for 25p thinking they are making money!

Me - I like to enjoy life. I (mostly) eat at restaurants I want to, rather than ones where I might have a voucher. I don't do many surveys but I do scan a receipt if it will get me 30p. I wont spend an hour to do a phone-task that earns £7. I do have a day job.

Everyone is different though, and the more people not having blogs the better for me! :D

I think with most things you start off knowing and earning nothing per hour and end up learning what works, and earning more per hour. Surveys are exactly the opposite, Prolific / Populus / Pinecone can earn you £50 to £150 each month, at a good hourly rate, but after that the more you do the less you get paid per hour, so I do know what you mean. It is nice to know though that when push comes to shove, you can make £200+ from surveys each month, even if you are being paid £2/3 an hour the more you do.

The way I look at it, if you paid me £2 an hour to watch tv that I'd watch anyways, I'm getting paid to watch tv so fanks very muchly :D

I’m all for a frugal vs living life balance and I admit I do have to remind myself to spend a little here an£ there on clothes for example, but what does drive me nuts is when people literally fritter away without thinking. For instance filling up on petrol at the most expensive petrol station, buying carrier bags every time you shop, etc things that really you shouldn’t notice.

Great thread.

I started out doing surveys, and still do the better paying ones (Pinecone for instance) but I have moved now to the mystery shopping apps. All told, I probably make around £200 extra in total each month with the deduction of fuel costs, though there is more I could make, no doubt. This is only my second month of using them, so I expect that figure to increase.

Surveys probably bring in £50 a month.

I am also naturally frugal, but from time to time will buy myself something I want (although I'm saving money at the moment). I think the making money / saving money balance is important, and you shouldn't tip too far one way or the other.

I am very interested in writing a blog too and playing the longer game with that, though there are so many that I do wonder whether a new blog would cut through (I'm pretty passionate about saving and making money using all sorts of means, as a singleton).

Go for it with the blog!

There are always going to be others who operate in the same niche as you but you just can’t worry about it!!

I remember posting something similar to this back in 2014 when I first setup TMS.

I am FOREVER trying to help people who I see struggling or complaining about the lack of money they have on Facebook or Twitter or whatever or even reaching out to them via email!

So I explain that there is a whole world of online earning available to them and it doesn't all have to be 50p surveys and clicksites and it just such a mission to get them to believe that you can earn very decent money online without there being a catch or some kind?

Have Internet scams just ruined trust THAT much?
Are people just exposed to too many MLM type posts on Facebook to believe offering untold riches if they just bug their facebook friends to death and get them to buy cleaning products from them?

I just feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall. I remember one time i was showing a woman online how you can earn money by working for WhatUsersDo who are a well known company and they record your screen while you work for them reviewing websites and this woman went nuts at me and sent me a HUGE Rant via email saying I must think she's dumb as anything if I think she would install some screen recording software on her laptop!

I know once people join up to TMS and get exposed to the community here life is grand and people earn more than they ever through they could do but it's just trying to convince people but more often then I not struggle to convince them that they CAN CHANGE their current financial situation for the better and it doesn't need to be as bad as it is now if they would just listen to me!!

You don't have to live with next to no money, you CAN earn THOUSANDS from home but you need to at least be open to the fact that I know what I'm talking about!!!!

Rant over!!

Many people who moan about it just want free money via the welfare system

I get ".....50p surveys aren't gonna pay the mortgage retort.. " well no, but you have to start somewhere..

I get fed up with the something-for-nothing attitude

I was actually thinking about this post today and couldn't agree with you more!

Anyone completely new to bettering themselves online could have:

Taken advantage of bank account switches such as the Yorkshire/B Bank £250 incentive, the TSB one etc and throughout the year got up to £1k.

Couple this with the MB sign-up offers for another £1k+ and also with the potential cashback through Topcashback etc when signing up for another few £100.

I mean, from those two things alone you're going to be 2k+ up compared to the time commitment needed to consistently save 30p's etc.

@Jon never stop doing what you are doing here. I’m a newbie to TMS and before only knew of one mystery shopping site. I now have a whole phone screen of them. I came here to earn money just to survive the month and a Roamler code (fess up folks I’m not alone in that). I set my target on @katykicker s post of £200 and though jeez that will be tough.
Well..... not only have I hit it but exceeded it! Next month is match betting for me (scary but has to be tried if I want a big different).
So what did my £200 afford for me to do?
Cracked tooth of 6 months repaired at the dentist - PAID
4 year old contact lenses and sight test done!
Next month I start saving for that new car and paying of my £3k credit card bill.
It’s not just @Jon and @katykicker I want to thank but every member who posts what they earned where and replied to my posts and helped me. A thousand sloppy kisses to you guys for helping me start digging myself out of this hole xxx

I second that @Pen! And @Jon I can also relate to your feeling of banging your head against a brick wall! I have got to the stage where I don't tell anyone about my making money on side hobby. When I hear people complaining that they have no money, I used to tell them about mystery shopping, cashback etc. Now, I just let them moan! It would appear people want money without lifting a finger. You guys on this forum are all great. Without this site, I thought never have found the vast opportunites which are readily available.
