Help settle a disagreement that is just so silly (well I think anyway!)

I have a couple of parcels to post that need to make the first post in the morning. They will be stamped but we are unable to get to the post office until 7pm tonight. In which case, the post office will be shut but it's inside a little corner shop as I live in a very small town and the shop is open until 8pm. The shop and post office are both run by the same man.

I told my other half that we would be able to drop the parcels off inside the shop and the man would either leave them on the counter, pop them behind the counter or put them in a posting sack. I thought this is quite obvious really.

But my other half thinks I am wrong and that once the post office is closed, they won't accept any mail until it is open again which seems a bit strange to me as it's not like they need labels or proof of postage or anything as they will be stamped, so basically ready to go.

Who do you think is right?

Thank you. That's exactly what I thought. I know they wouldn't have any collections until the morning lol

seems to be happening more and more

our closest post office was shut last year and is now basically a sub-counter in a local corner shop

a lot of post offices have also moved into WH Smiths which Is probably a logical step for both companies really

I've only ever known post offices to be inside shops. They are horrendous at certain times though with queues being miles long. We are quite lucky here that there is never more than 3 people in front of us

I think it also depends on whether the shop in question has a separate post office counter. If so, this may in fact be closed, so not able to accept any parcels until it re-opens.

Why don't you give the store a ring and ask them? That way you will know for sure, and may even be able to arrange something definite with the shopkeeper?

Edit: Also, would you really want your parcel just leaving on or behind the normal shop counter? Do you not need to get a 'proof of postage' for the parcel in case it gets lost and you need to put in a claim?

Worth finding these things out now, than a wasted journey

We are still lucky, that our post office is still a post office. We had 3 at one point and now we are down to one, and with the way the village is growing it's not going to be enough.
