[member=4373]adp[/member] , I hope you manage to get the issue sorted out, if not just put it down to experience. Thanks for sharing that rating info, I just realised I'm on proven, I thought I was unrated so had nothing to lose....haha. ...now I have to rethink my strategy. ...haha

[member=928]askgar[/member] , yes I got them as well but turned them down as I had enough cycles on.
Just a quick question, if there are bonuses on a particular cycle, does everyone who gets a bug approved qualify to get it or its just for the rated ones?
It really depends, sometimes it'll says the first tester to do something gets a bonus, other times it says everyone.

[member=4373]adp[/member] I am definitely more picky with the cycles I accept, as I also work full time I suspect I reject 50%+ of invites (especially recently, I've been getting 3-5 invites per day some days.

The other issues sounds horrible, I guess the best you can hope for is a WAD, I suspect even the TTL can't close your bug out now. You would definitely have grounds to dispute a negative rating though if you were given one.

I can relate to the number of invites. I am thinking that maybe my best option might be to mainly accept test cycles that come with test cases, to make best use of time.

I decided to modify my pending bug report in the end to include full details of the bug, and I have attached a note in the results section explaining briefly the situation of being advised by TTL to report a bug, and due to the cycle closing being unable to remove it. I hope that this note won't be frowned upon!. At least the company can now see the full bug report with accompanying videos anyway. Lesson learned on this one. As some of you have already noted, it is probably sometimes best to go against TTL advice and to just go with own instinct.

adp, I think I was on that same cycle. I've worked with that TTL lots of times & always found them to be fair. Behind the scenes (which we can't see) they can often suggest to the customer whether it's an accept or reject so hopefully it'll go through in your favour. It could well be that they can't do anything more now until the customer has looked at it. I don't think they can remove bugs but can mark them as WAD which won't affect your rating.

I decided to read the TTL manual (I was going to apply but have decided its too much work), however for most cycles the way it works is that a TTL suggests a course of action, but then it is up to customer to decide how they actually want to proceed.

Thank you both for your input, it is much appreciated. [member=580]Genie[/member] , it would be interesting if we were both on the same cycle :)

Yes, I think this probably just comes down to a case of bad timing really. Hopefully it will work out fine. I haven't had any other problems so far. Had I had the chat with TTL a bit earlier then I would have had time to read his reply before the cycle ended and of course been able to remove my bug report in time, so just one of those things, and yeh, probably not actually the fault of the TTL in this case. It was just a bit frustrating, but moving on.. :)

One thing though, do you think I should remove the explanation I included in the bug report about the issue? (where I explained briefly the situation of talking with PM and TTL etc). Due to not having any previous experience with this kind of thing, I have conflicting thoughts on whether to leave it there or not!

It's a hard one. I think I'd be inclined to just leave in the details relating to the issue. That's all the customer is interested in. Hopefully, the TTL has suggested it is (at worse) WAD so your rating isn't affected. If it is rejected as OOS then you can refer back to chat if you decide to dispute or escalate it to the PM. The PM can change rejected to accepted if they feel it is justified or the customer has been a bit harsh.

Honestly, I've only looked at the forum once or twice and not found it useful. It can be found by going to uTest.com and it is in the side bar, alternatively https://www.utest.com/forums

It's been a very busy day here, I have turned down about 8 cycles today, a few with long lists of known issues and then got myself on a terrible cycle with a limited testing scope (error of judgment )shame one can't get themselves off a cycle once they have accepted it....for once I have doubted my ability to read and understand English, haha, I can see some people on the cycle seem confused as well, luckily we were requested to report a fairly easy assignment as a bug and I have managed to use +1 feature. I will now let this cycle be. I hope you are all having a nice time testing.

I've also had a crazy couple of days, I've currently got 7 or 8 cycles on the go (some of which I've already finished with), 3 outstanding test cases, and have turned down ANOTHER 6 cycles this morning (after turning down 5 or 6 yesterday). Must just be the time of year.

Also had 2 issues on the same cycle declined a couple of days ago, a bit annoyed as the reason behind the rejection doesn't seem to match up with the scope of the project. Not sure I'll dispute though as I know that never goes well. There are also another 5 rejects for other tests with similar issues.

UPDATE: Decided to email the PM as I reread the scope, and chat for the project, and the rejection reason definitely didn't match the project scope. I had a reply from the PM within 10 minutes saying that he'd already contacted the customer about the issue as the number of rejections had raised suspicion, and the issues were definitely within the scope we were given for the project, and the rejection will be overturned in the next few days :)

[member=928]askgar[/member] , What a busy week you have had and glad the rejectons are being sorted, I think some customers don't realise the amount of time testers put in to raise issues with in the specified scope. Do you test full time? Having 5 or more cycles on the go must be hard work and takes a lot of skill, well done you.

On some cycles I see some issues approved straight away and others left pending for a while, does it mean that the pending ones have a high chance of rejection?

Have a lovely weekend

Nah, I have a full time job as a software developer, this is something I do for extra money in my spare time. I tend to focus mostly on test case cycles, with most of my bugs being a side effect of test cases.

It feels like in this case the customer approving the bugs, wasn't the same person who defined the scope, so they didn't realise what was actually being tested.

Generally in those cycles the issues being approved straight away are obvious issues (usually with basic functionality being broken for everyone, or obvious UI issues) the ones that stay pending are usually because the customer needs to do further investigation to determine if something is a bug, an issue with the users environment, more information gathering required, etc. I tend to find in cycles with things being approved quickly, rejections tend to occur quickly as well, it is the more complex issues which hang around.

I think there is a limit of 45-60 days from cycle close to issues needing to be approved, sometime it can feel like an eternity when you keep checking and see 1 or 2 bugs that feel like they've been stuck there forever.

I find sometimes that I can have 2 or 3 cycles for the same customer all with issues pending then they all get approved at once. I think if it gets to 45 days then they automatically get approved depending on the triage of the TTL/PM.

Just finished doing a stressful test case, i feel relieved, hopefully it will be accepted ok, just found out i'm on bronze borderline Silver which is a surprise really, I never thought i would stick with Utest for long as found it overwhelming, am actually enjoying it now though still nervous when I'm invited to a new cycle. I am now aiming to submit 2-3 good bugs per cycle, how are you all getting on? Thank you all for your support without which I wouldn't be able to stick with this great money earner.
