My daughter came down with Covid a few days back. She has a job interview on Monday. Rang them to say that she wanted to reschedule and their attitude was that they didn't mind and she could still go. I know that restrictions are over, but it still seems a bit off! She told them she wouldn't be going - especially as getting there would require a 30 minute bus ride.

My mum’s currently in hospital, in the dementia ward (so you’d think they’d be a bit more careful). Nurses and doctors hacking and coughing, and nobody’s checking test results for family visitors coming in any longer. Not a lot of mask wearing going on either.

I don’t even think there’s much point in making a complaint. Even in a hospital context, I think the guidelines are now “personal choice/responsibility”. My mum’s sailed through Covid twice, completely asymptomatic on both occasions, but we’re starting to look at her going into long-term care, so taking Covid into her new home would be a logistical (and health) nightmare.

Yes, I am a bit pissed off. I can fully support people making their own decisions in the outside world as this can’t go on forever, but surely hospital is still a bit of a special case, especially an elderly/vulnerable ward? Is it me?

It just isn't consistent anywhere at the moment. I was supposed to go to see the surgery nurse yesterday. They asked all the covid questions, which I answered no to, told them I had had a negative LFT an hour ago. (because I'm considerate like that) They then asked if anyone in the house had Covid, I said yes, my husband and they wouldn't let me in. Eye test, on the other hand - yeah, no problem, just do a LFT before you come, if its negative, its fine I have a dentist appointment on Friday - wonder what will happen there. You just don't know where you stand on anything at the moment, it seems.

I totally agree!
We are up in Scotland and was rung up by our dentist recently to say they could fit me and my husband in for our check ups. Anyhow there were loads of restrictions in place.
They wanted us to do an LFT before we came in. Then the door is locked so once we had arrived we had to phone to say we had arrived. Waiting room is not in use and no one is allowed to use the toilet facilities either. Only one person allowed in at any one time even from the same household. The other one would have to stand outside and wait until the other one had finished and was leaving.
Before you are allowed inside they would be taking our temperature then a health questionnaire to answer as well!
Then the check up would only be a quick look at the teeth they can’t do the normal cleaning etc.
We just said we would delay it until things are more back to normal. It’s way too much messing around especially when it wouldn’t be a normal dental check up anyway.
We haven’t attempted the optician yet but when we have walked past you can’t go in the door without a pre booked appointment so the seated waiting areas are not being used at the opticians either.

It is mad. My daughter and her husband both have Covid at present. (We haven't seen each other for weeks, so complete coincidence that both households have it) They both work in places where they deal face to face with the public. Daughter's work said come in if you feel well enough. Her husband's work said they wanted a PCR test done for confirmation, then not to go back until he has two negative LFTs. Daughter also had a job interview booked this week and they were quite happy for her to attend, knowing that she has Covid - daughter declined the interview. My Husband's work immediately booked him off for the week as isolating, so he's on full pay and is going back 7 days after his positive LFT. Again he works face to face with the public. So that's three different employers, with three different approaches!
