Once we come out the other side, god knows what the state of the country is going to be in. It's just going to be more hardship after another.

Yes, well someone has to pay for all the extra debt the government has taken on. Expect higher taxes definitely as a starting point.

I should think when this calms down a bit someone offering advice on how to make money from home will strike it rich. If you can hold your nerve it will be a case of being in the right place at the right time.
We'll see

TMS is fine in terms of existing however it (and me) is paid for by paid marketing work. Ie, company wants a blog post, newsletter mention etc and pays me for it. At the moment companies just aren't spending and i've lost about 60% of my income in the last few weeks

Just need to find a way to weather the storm but the fact I'm not going to get that government grant for the self employed because I had a full time job still in 2018/2019 is more than annoying lol

I am clinging on to the hope that there will not be a long recession. A lot of people will have been earning still - even if it is limited due to being furloughed. They will want to spend when they can get out so restaurants and bars should pick up soon. Clothes shops will be the same. Some areas will need to be closed longer - sporting events/large theatre or music events so their staff will need to be supported for longer. I don't mean the well paid performers but the staff around them.

we HAVE to go back to normality in June don't we?!?!?

I don't get how the government can afford to carrying on paying everyones wages like they have been as we will end up as a country totally broke and with naff all businesses left!

I am not sure if it can be normality. I imagine that it will depend upon how the number of new cases drop over the next few weeks. It could be like Austria - some can start again, probably others will over the next month. If the rates of infection keep increasing it could have to change again. What would be worse - an extra month now or lockdown again in September?

I'm meant to go on holiday in September so more lockdown now

but lockdown where certain shops can open so we can at least start generating some money as a country

Meant to add that they have not started paying all wages yet. I still don't know what I will get and doubt it will be paid before May.

Yes - the way Austria is doing it sounds sensible. The Danish way of sending younger children back to school also seems quite sensible. I can think of schools for younger children where I have been where there could be a decent amount of space between children - if you can get then to stick to it. Senior schools is a different matter.

Agree in that I cannot see how the government can keep supporting everyone, but it will not be as easy to get even some of the country back to work. Offices if the space can implement social distancing, shops can in some respect limit the number of people in the store etc, but this may come at extra cost, but without any vaccine or way to stop a further outbreak and spread will people come out to shops??

NHS England has announced 651 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 11,656.

Of the 651 new deaths announced today:

– 113 occurred on April 14
– 277 occurred on April 13
– 103 occurred on April 12

151 of the deaths took place between April 1 and April 11, and the remaining seven deaths occurred in March, with the earliest new death taking place on March 23.

NHS England releases updated figures each day showing the dates of every coronavirus-related death in hospitals in England, often including new deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.

This is because of the time it takes for deaths to be confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19, for post-mortem tests to be processed, and for data from the tests to be validated.

The figures published today by NHS England show that April 8 currently has the highest total for the most hospital deaths occurring on a single day – 771 – although this could change in future updates.

That’s quite a way down from 771 and I thought today’s number would be really bad due to the bank holiday lag
