I suppose the argument would be what is an appropriate sample size to base the judgment on.

What do we think about the fact the population outside of hospitals / care homes that currently have this is 0.27%!!!

One problem the govt have now is their covid propaganda was too effective and many people are now too scared to go back to work/school/normal life because they think if they see another person they'll get infected. Even though the risk is very low.

They need to get the economy moving but are tying themselves up with mixed messages that are confusing and making things worse: Wear a mask in enclosed spaces - but kids and teachers can go back to school without masks. Invite a stranger to come into your home to view it if you are selling - but your own mother still can't visit you for 10 mins in your garden.

NHS England announces 186 new deaths in hospitals

NHS England has announced 186 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 24,345.

Of the 186 new deaths announced today:
– 45 occurred on Thursday, 66 occurred on Wednesday and 32 on Tuesday.

The figures also show 39 of the new deaths took place between May 1 and May 11, and four took place in April.

NHS England releases updated figures each day showing the dates of every coronavirus-related death in hospitals in England, often including previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.

This is because of the time it takes for deaths to be confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19, for post-mortem examinations to be processed and for data from the tests to be validated.

The figures published today by NHS England show April 8 continues to have the highest number for the most hospital deaths occurring on a single day, with a current total of 889.

The news about Slovenia is good, but they still have had less then 1500 cases. I would rather see the results from Spain, Italy and Germany.

I think the R number is misleading because thousands of cases were missed at the start because of lack of testing. If they test more people they will find more cases. I think it is probably still going down because deaths and hospital admissions are dropping quickly. I do think the government should think things through a bit. I could hire my daughter in law as a cleaner but she can't pop in for coffee.

Yeah there was a joke on BBC1 tonight about the fact that if you want to see your family just put your house on the market and invite them around for a house viewing!

The BBC article near enough says that the most likely reason the R is going up is because of care homes / hospitals instead of the it being in the community

Just watching the press conference today. Scientists explaining how even though the national R may go it in communities it is SIGNIFICANTLY lower because the national R gets artificially raised by all the care home / hospital cases

Lots of interesting stuff from this mornings interviews

The UK economy is now over "the worst" of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and is entering a recovery phase as restrictions are loosened, the chairman of the Office for Budget Responsibility has said.

Robert Chote told BBC One's Andrew Marr Show: "The key worry is if you have not just a very sharp downturn in the economy but one that scars its future potential."

Spain below 100 deaths!
Spain, one of the world's worst-hit countries by coronavirus, has released its latest figures which show its daily death toll dropped below 100 for the first time in two months.

It was 87 on Sunday, the health ministry said, bringing the total deaths from the virus to 27,650.

I think this 14 days quarantine if you arrive in the UK is going to be quashed you know as I've not seen it mentioned for a few days now and just think it would damage too many airports around the world that fly to the UK

I don't see how anyone can say the economy is recovering when half of it is still closed and the government are still paying people's wages.

Out of all my friends there''s only one who's carried on doing his normal job and usual hours (warehouse worker) 4 of the others are furloughed and another 3 working from home (with varying degrees of productivity).
