I know quite a few nurses who have had routine antibody testing and have tested positive even though they have had no symptoms. And scarily, they must have been working while infected, because they felt perfectly well.

Operation Warp Speed is where it’s at

The US federal government will pay $1.6bn (£1.3bn) to drug maker Novavax to produce 100m coronavirus doses.

The payment is the largest made so far by the US "Operation Warp Speed" - a partnership between the federal government and the private sector to find a coronavirus vaccine - and the fourth made to a drug manufacturer.

Novavax, which is based in Maryland, has never before brought a product to market, according to the New York Times.

“Adding Novavax’s candidate to Operation Warp Speed’s diverse portfolio of vaccines increases the odds that we will have a safe, effective vaccine as soon as the end of this year,” US Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said in a statement on Tuesday.

Novavax CEO Stanley Erck told CNN on Monday that the deal with the US government "speaks to the confidence that they have in our platform to be able to develop a vaccine". He added that the company aims to ship out 100m vaccination doses by February 2021.

Does anyone know the reality (or not) behind the claim that anyone with covid present at the time of death is having the death attributed to covid as the cause?

If that's the case then surely this is an inflated figure? I understand other things will come into play such as total mortality rate etc.

Basically if anyone has a good source on this?

I try not to worry about it too much, although I'm obviously respectful of the guidelines.

May be it is time to admit you are too old for Disney Jon. We were due to go to Italy in June. Not a lot of foresight there. It is true that any one with covid on the death certificate is counted as a covid death so some people may have died any way but in April and May there were more excess deaths (deaths over the five year average) than the numbers counted as covid deaths so it is likely some were missed. I am also reading disturbing reports of people who recovered being left with long term lung damage or chronic fatigue syndrome. It is a nasty virus.

I suppose that's a bit like the top Premier League players helping the lower league & non-league clubs.

Sorry - I have just noticed this. There must be rule changes so that the Premier League and the clubs in it can help lower league teams. Last October before all this started, Everton chairman Bill Kenwright wanted to give Bury £1 million of his own money to help them but the rules would not let him and Bury went under.

It does seem that there are talks about helping out the lower teams but I agree it needs to happen quickly.

So what do we think of these new measures put in place by the government then

I think the 50% off meals thing in August is a good idea as nothing gets people out of the house more than seeing other people doing the same HOWEVER the way the guy was speaking this morning in Interviews he speaks with a very big worry in his voice about this ultra bad recession coming which is basically going to be a nightmare with people already out of work and more companies folding

The 50 percent off is a good thing -I wish it was on for at least one day over the weekend through so it means I could have gone with my partner who works long hours in the week.

I think they needed to put some thing in place to protect the jobs more - Paying £1000 is not going to be much of a temptation to keep staff on. The ones who seem to have more protection is the younger generation who are getting some of their wages paid - but companies are already making use of cheap wages through the apprentice schemes. I think there will be a lot of elderly/close to pension age or even part time workers who are mostly the ones working around families that will be affected the most as they tend to be the ones let go first. I know four staff from Kuoni that have lost jobs - all are part-time workers - three mums and one close to pension age. I also live near Bentley and the ones at risk more are the ones near retirement.

I think it will help one industry and get people out of the house but there does seem to be other areas that need to be considered. I did read a report that there had been a recommendation that the way to get the economy started was to give £500 to each adult and £250 to each child to be spent on the high street or hospitality but he did not mention that yesterday.

Did anyone see that poor curtain fitter who didn't qualify for any of the bailouts on BBC breakfast this morning? Shunak did nothing to address his problems in the subsequent interview. Its gonna get bad for some people.

Boots also announced job cuts today.

How come he's not getting any help? Was he recently self employed or something or did he earn over £50k?

Yeah he was recently self employed, although I'm not sure why he couldn't claim universal credit or the mortgage holiday. He looked a broken man though, poor chap.

I think it would have made more sense to have given money directly to adults and kids to spend any where excluding supermarkets in July/August. I think 50% discount is nice for those who have safe jobs and financial certainty but for those who don't then it's of no value.

The only issue with excluding supermarkets is that there will be a lot of people who then could not spend it. My dad could not walk around the high street and in reality there is little or nothing he would want that he could not get in a supermarket
