I think for it to work properly they would have to put a lot of resources into schools and provide poorer families with access to IT facilities. I am not sure they are willing or able to do this. Plus not sure they are willing to put travel agencies/Airlines under further pressure. Instead, they leave the choice and hence financial burden on individuals. I myself have to decide whether to go on a holiday in 3 weeks or take the massive financial hit, again we are less worried about the virus and more concerned about quarantine here or over there. I imagine Boris is fuming he has to deal with this rather than make speeches about the joys of him being out PM!

So, I am in a, well, not unique by far, but distinct position with regard to this.

I am very immunosuppressed. I have autoimmune disease, and the treatment for it is to dial my immune system right down. So, not only am I at higher risk of catching bugs and viruses, I am significantly more likely to experience complications and more severe symptoms. I (at 31), am one of those people "with preexisting health conditions" that so many seem to be happy to use as reassurance for the population that they don't need to worry, it just us lot who are at real risk.

I'm making sure we're set for some time self isolating in case that becomes the advice for people like me, which it may well. I'm not panicking, I'm preparing.

Why can’t we just go to the delay phase now?
Contain obviously ain’t making much of a difference!

I agree. We are heading there anyway, so the sooner they do it the fewer people will suffer and die. They are only delaying the inevitable.

I have to say, I've spent the day working up a good head of panic (must stay off social media...). Despite being the proud owner of an auto-immune condition, I would probably get through this reasonably okay by virtue of the fact my lungs are pretty robust by virtue of what I do for a living.

My 83 year old diabetic mum with a lung condition who has to be constantly reminded to wash her hands...not so much. If I caught it and gave it to her, I would never forgive myself.

I think there are quite a few people that feel like this, myself included. Italy have literally put the whole country on lock down to contain the virus.

I've taken the decision that I'm doing March's gigs (which means a certain amount of travel to and from rehearsals and venues) with plenty of extra care, but today is the last day I'm going into town to teach. I'm aware I'll lose a few students teaching via Zoom for the next few months, but I feel the responsibility to do the over-cautious thing. I've got a nice big park nearby, so even if we go on semi-lockdown within the next few weeks, I can still get out and about for a walk without touching anything or speaking to anyone!

I've worked in Italy quite a lot. Trust me when I say this is NOT the Italian way and this decision hasn't been taken lightly.

I don't think the decision has been taking lightly, but hats off to the PM for being able to make a difficult decision. Desperate times call for desperate measures, atleast the PM didn't go into hiding unlike Boris Johnson.

Tesco had sold out of pasta yesterday. Pretty sure it was fueled by media reports that shops were selling out of pasta so all the sheeple went out and bought what was left because thats what everyone else must be doing. Plenty of rice and tinned potatos and beans and other stables left, it was just the pasta they hit, because thats what was in the news. Idiots.

I can't wait to go shopping on the weekend and see what's been cleared out! I might have to take a shield with me to protect myself from people fighting over loo roll! :D

The loo rolls have returned to my local shops! I picked up some loo rolls then after getting everything else I needed, I put them back as I don't actually need them :p

But the pasta has gone now. It's like the people who bought toilet rolls have suddenly realised they can't eat them!!

The buggers have even cleared out the gluten-free pasta at my local Tesco - some of us need that stuff!

Out of all the MPs that could have got it its somewhat ironic it is the Health minister thats the first to test positive.

Man City v Arsenal is off tonight. I am giving up on accas for the duration as cancelled games could cause problems with number of legs and acca insurance.
