I'm hoping one of the wordpress bloggers can help me.

I want to set up a dedicated site with blog on it for my business, but I also want to be able to have subpages as a redirect, because each of my socials has a special shop page with a horrible link to register the sales against the right social.

If I have wordpress set up for my blog, how easy is it going to be to have those subpages? If I was doing the whole thing in straight html then I'd just upload a quick and dirty html file for each subpage with the redirect on.

Thanks!

I'm not entirely sure what you mean?

If you mean that you want to create a navigation system within your blog so that people clicking on a button can be sent to the appropriate sub-page then this is very easy with wordpress. You just create a new page with the appropriate content and then add that page's URL to the button / banner / image etc and your visitor will be redirected.

I thought she meant she wanted to setup

rings.outhhilldesigns.com
pearls.outhhilldesigns.com
makeup.outhhilldesigns.com

etc

but now I realise that like most franchises she doesn't actually own that domain.

so it would be done at whatever domain name she buiys

There are a few ways you can do this.

You can set up Yourwebsite.com/blog for Wordpress, then Yourwebsite.com/shop for business 1, etc. Going to yourwebsite.com loads a screen with links to the blog, business venture1, etc.

Or you can set up different categories. So everything looks the same, but your categories can be your business ventures.

I don't own the south hill designs domain, no :)

What I want to set up is www.mydomain.com/party and have it redirect to www.southhilldesigns.com/EllieHall/compilcatedhexcode which is the link for buying products attached to a specific social.

Basically, I want something easy to type and nice on the eye, so I can give people that if they're buying as part of a special campaign online.

So for instance, do you want EllieHall.com, where people can click on various links like "party" etc and they redirect away?

Really simple!

No, I don't want the links to be on the Wordpress site at all :)

So, I'm about to do a campaign for one of my baby groups, so want to tell them to go to www.elliehall.com/hartbeeps to buy their stuff, which will redirect them to the real sale page.

Are you limited in what you are trying to do here to the way you can set things up because of this southhilldesign

does that HAVE to be the only way of selling goods online? Can you not knock up your own e-shop selling the same items but have greater control?

Nope, that's part of the T&C'S, and I don't really mind because I don't want to do my own web shop admin.

I don't think it's that hard, I'm just not sure if using Wordpress because I'm lazy and want a blog
CMS in place will stop me from uploading the additional pages via direct FTP.

I'd normally just have a file called party.html and in it have the redirect code.

if it was me i would want subdomains rather than /page.htm

so the T&C actually say you cant create a webshop, sell item and then just place a order yourself and send the order to the customer?

it's like you haven't really bought the rights to sell these products however you want

It's only online sales, and I'm pretty sure it's to create a consistent online image and keep people off eBay and etsy - those kind of sites get slapped down pretty quick. We're also forbidden from placing pre-made lockets in retail outfits, but since our USP is customisation that one makes a lot of sense.

A normal web store I'd be doing an awful lot of work to replicate my official store, without adding any real functionality and adding a second unnecessary layer of processing fees (payment to me and then payment to the supplier, and postage to me and then onwards to the customer) - that really doesn't make good business sense!

So, do you want someone to click on something and be sent to the other site or an automatic redirect of one page to the other? Either is very easy to do with Wordpress but still not sure what you're trying to do. Perhaps if you explain the process step-by-step from the customer's first action and the route you want then to to take to the final destination?

Customer receives an email with a special offer, and a link to follow to qualify as part of that special offer.

All I want to do is mask that link, so it looks nicer and is easy to type. Partly psychological, party because I'm considering print campaigns where there won't be a link to follow, partly because i have some campaigns that i want to keep running, but i need to close the selling page every month and recreate it with a new ID to cash out my commission and bonuses.

I could do it with a tiny URL or by doing the click here with an embedded link, but I have a personal distrust of both, and that doesn't let me have a dedicated landing point for campaigns where I just change in the background where it leads to.

I want to have several of these on the go at once :)

Everytime I keep coming up with a solution to this problem I end up deleting what I have written because I see a point where it won't work

Done it three times now lol

Would a 301 redirect be the answer?

I think a 302 rather than a 301, if my wiki-fu is right :) so... Can I do it with a Wordpress site? Or am I going to need something else to run my blog on?

I'm going to need FTP access to the .htaccess file. I'm considering ipage or godaddy for the host, which both claim to have 1-click Wordpress setup.

I use ipage for another (non-commercial) site, but that uses their drag and drop builder not wordpress.

You can do all of this stuff on a Wordpress site.
I have accessed the htaccess file on my wordpress site to block an annoying spambot that was messing up my visitor stats.
You may be right about the 301/302 issue - never done it myself.
