Just gone to do the second beginner offer and realised I can't because i already have an old Betfred account from 2012 :( Not sure what to do now! Was hoping for a couple of practice runs before I signed up to PA

You are right Jon. I'm going to wait until I get the results of my first one at 5.30pm, (just to confirm what I already know!) then I think I will have to just go for it. I've been putting this off for too long!

How comes you have been putting it off?
What was the hurdle for you to overcome?

I'm not really sure. I've had the money so its not that. I think just general fear about how complicated it all seems. I know it probably won't be once I get going but I think I've just been quite intimidated by the thought of it. I've kept thinking I'll do it after Xmas. Then i'll do it after my holiday. There is nothing else left for me to use as an excuse now so I've got to just crack on and see if its for me or not!

Great thread!

I am completely clueless with matched betting and got myself properly confused a few months ago.

I do plan to return and give it another go, so shall read this thread v carefully and take notes

I've been on holiday, and then my dad got sick and has been in hospital. Things getting somewhat back to normal, so I hope to crack on, get a few surveys & things done
and try matched betting again too. I feel like this is a thread I will be dipping into a lot!

I'm struggling guys :-\ Trying reeeeally hard to get my head around it all but I've just watched the video on PA about unmatched bets and now my head is sozzled.

If your bet is unmatched and you don't want to wait to see if it gets matched and you use the tricky bets calculator...are you then placing another lay bet? So you have placed 1 bet with a bookie and matched it to 2 separate lay bets?

Sort of... yes.. but you are only making up to what you were going to lay anyway... if the liability was £40 and there was only £30 in the market the tricky bet calculator will work out how much you need lay at the new odds to get your full £40 matched....I think... have only needed to do it once

On betfair you can just press 'cancel unmatched bet' if the WHOLE thing is unmatched it's FAR easier to do that

My suggestion for anyone starting out is, if you stick to high profile events like the Premier League, Champions League etc. then you won't have to worry about unmatched bets because there's so much liquidity in those markets. Plus it's better for the overall health of your accounts.

I would definitely agree with doing this wherever possible. No need to worry about partially matched bets and the trickybet calculator then.

Can't always bet on the high profile things though.. For instance my 888 Sport GMM free bets were going to expire today 1 pm but there was nothing high profile on 888 this morning so they went on a lower profile match (which had enough in the market to cover liability) just remember to check if there is enough money in the exchange market for the bet you want to place... if not find another that does.

Yeah when it's a quiet sporting week, but I've got a free bet that's about to expire I'd just stick it on whatever comes up on the home page. The bookies will promote whatever's got the most liquidity going for a given day anyway. And if it's the Johnstone's Paint Trophy then so be it!

[member=2821]mabozza[/member] Champion's League games tonight - they're high profile. You just have to place the free bet before it runs out, the bet doesn't have to be settled. You could've used it on Saturday's football etc.
