My Review of 2015

I began the year in a job that I had only recently started and was not going very well. I lost my job in late February and split up with my girlfriend soon about a month later (not related to the job).

At the same time I discovered matched betting and became involved in a network marketing company. One of these ventures has proved to be highly successful, the other one a bit of a struggle.

In conversations with people I have had people say to me that you need to stick with one business, not start too many things at once etc, if you say "I do this, I also do that...." etc they dilute each other. Fair point. But I also feel that's all very well fpr people who are already in established in a business, you know how to work it, what type of action you need to grow it etc, but when you're new to a business opportunity, it is sometimes necessary to do a bit of trying things out, and finding a business model that suits you.

2015 and has been very much the year of trial an error for me, but I believe I have now found the business for me.

Goal Setting for 2016

I do have goals for 2016. The principle behind my goals is to keep things simple, but very focused and challenging. Ultimately I want to leverage my whole business plan but this needs to be done in stages. So my first new year goal is this:

1. Get 10 referrals into my business by the end of January. Referrals who are active whom I can help their business grow and prosper

Once that's met, I will then set the next goal.

I have a few non-business goals also
- Find a new girlfriend, or at least take some steps towards it
- Organise a talk (I present talks on Asperger's Syndrome)
- Working on my music and get one really really good song recorded.

Okay, my resolutions.
[list type=decimal]
[*]Earn £1,200 to put into the homebuy ISA I'm thinking of opening (you can only put £200 a month in after the initial amount so I want to put the full amount in to start with, considering Halifax are offereing 4% AER it's a lot better than my 0.8% with santander)
[*] Sort out a separate phone for downloading apps/playing swagbucks videos etc.
[*] Learn enough German to hold a conversation. (and not accidentally speak dutch when trying to do so because that's embarassing)
[*] Eat better. I may be using PACT to help me with that.
[*] Make sure I don't miss any of my Pride and prejudice read-a-longs on youtube, especially when I have Patreon donations.
[*] Buy more chemises, though things are so comfy to lounge around the house in.
[*] -Maybe- try matched betting.
[*] Make sure my taxes are in order before my accountant asks for them. Oh yeah, have money to pay the accountant!!!
[*] Not exactly loose weight, but try and reduce the tummy/hips so i can fit into more clothes.

[/list]

1. Sell buy to let house.
2. Increase earnings so I don't have to go back to work in September once maternity leave is over. (I'm aware point 1 and 2 might counteract each other!)
3. Lose the baby weight - only 8lb to go and baby is 5 weeks so hopefully not too difficult

Need to save hard, be disciplined and blag as much as possible this year to achieve.

Decluttering is going well. So far apart from that nothing else achieved as yet!

Find a job in the area I want to live in (this is proving to be hard with the dog)

Have a holiday (no more than a week)

overpay some of my mortage

Do a cookery course, a wine awareness course and a flower arranging course...

Don't drink alchohol during the week

Reach payout on surveynetwork (£5 to go) then leave!

Wine awareness course sounds great! I probably don't need one of those though! Hope you can find one which runs on a weekend! ;D

I'm going to do exactly the same as you with surveynetwork!

Good luck with reaching payout [member=1619]SarahLu[/member] - it's taking me forever!! Wine awareness courses run in the day or, if you want to pay more, at the weekend in a nice hotel with dinner in the evening. They also give you the option to stay over and given the nature of the course and the location of the hotel (very rural) then they have you by the short and curlies! I like the hotel option but I think the day course in a local college is the sensible option and will work out cheaper!!

Since I have just decided to give MB a go, my (rather late) New Years Resolution is to be able to give up work in a few months and work from home.

Also I would like to finish few cross stitch projects (not easy with a baby)!

I do need to cut down on the chocolate too....

Good luck everyone with yours!

Mine are more targets than resolutions I guess but i really want to get them done in this order

1. Finish the final report for my qualification
2. Enjoy my holiday in New Zealand (should definitely manage this one!)
3. start matched betting on holiday return
4. Find time for a hobby - any suggestions on what I should take up would be good.

[member=2466]TheFrugalCottage[/member] I've followed on twitter and instagram too; if I help someone else achieve their goals, it might motivate me more to achieve my own!

You will LOVE New Zealand. Lived there for 12 months (2003-2004) on the working holiday visa scheme. It is an amazing place!

Here's hoping! We are only doing the North Island as we are only there for 3 weeks and so don't want to spend all our time just travelling to the next place; have you got any tips [member=2613]mcp[/member] on the best things we should be focussing on doing whilst we are out there?

I would guess you are flying in to Auckland? We lived there and worked for a bit - there is a lot to see in the city.

My recommendations - 2-3 days in Auckland then head north to the Bay of Islands (beautiful) and 90 mile beach (a road that is the beach). There is a great guest house in Baylys Beach (not sure of name but was owned by the former manager of Led Zeppelin).

The Coromandel area is beautiful.

You must see Rotorua for the thermal springs.

Lake Taupo is stunning! If you get the chance and feel active look into the Tongariro crossing.

Napier is funky with its art-deco properties.

The forest parks are great.

Wellington is great.

We had a day out at Cape Palliser (southernmost point on the north island) - Remote fishing village with large seal colony.

This should keep you busy!

have fun :D :D

Thanks [member=2613]mcp[/member] we were going to try and head to most of the places on your list bar Wellington I think; and i will definately look up that guest house, it's always nice to find slightly different and quirky places to stay even if it's just for the story of who owns them.

[member=2532]EmilyDav[/member] I've just been checking Baylys Beach and I think it might have closed. The restaurant 'The Funky Fish Cafe and Bar' that was owned by the same person has closed down. Shame it was a great quiet place to stay - would probably avoid though now as nowhere to eat in the village!
