My problem with Nintendo is...

I have been playing the same game near enough since I started playing zelda and mario in the late 80s

It's just the same franchises rehashed.

I am not saying the content is not good but how many times can I play a new version of
Smash or the princess be in another castle

I also feel the Nintendo exist in a bubble where the rest if gaming has matured in both content and features and Nintendo refuse to get their act together

Nintendo will always make kid aim games but does that mean it has to have next to no network gaming features or a sub par technical spec compared to the rest of this generations hardware

Have been lucky enough to get a code to play the new Bungie game Destiny on the PS4.

Really enjoying it, this game was completely off my radar even though I knew their history with the Halo games.

It's like of like Halo with a cross of Borderlands

Minecraft....

can someone explain to me the appeal of this game.

I watched a video this morning about how it works on YouTube and I have downloaded the iPad version (https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/minecraft-pocket-edition/id479516143?mt=8) but am struggling to 'get it'

Apart from nighttime when the monsters come and kill me I just don't get what I am meant to be doing, let alone the crafting stuff

Daytime you explore. gather and build. I made myself a nice little underground lair with a farm so I have an unlimited supply of wool, meat and hay.

I can get lost in it for days, my only bug bear is that if you die, you drop all the stuff you had on you and start at the beginning again. I can never find where I died to collect all the stuff ::)

I also love the little surprises they put in the game too, this so far is my favourite.

I looooooove Minecraft! The iOS version hasn't got all the features of the PC version but I think they constantly update it to try and catch up with it.

The appeal changes depending on what a person likes doing, some people play it to try and get to The End and fight the boss, some like exploring to find a perfect home location, but I think most people like trying to create elaborate structures out of the blocks.

The thing that is huge though is modded Minecraft, people are constantly modding the game to include new items, new features and new gameplay. Some people create custom maps for people to download turning Minecraft into a puzzle game, RPG or adventure. There are servers for people to play multiplayer, sometimes just doing vanilla stuff but sometimes there are servers dedicated to a game made in Minecraft or MMORPGS and more :)

I could go on and on lol I think to children it's like Lego but you have to collect the resources - there's a sense of accomplishment when you complete something that other sandbox games can leave you missing

I think you are right about it replacing Lego.

Saw something on the BBC News website about how Minecraft is being harnessed by schools to help teach kids all manor of subjects

How do I get to THE BOSS?

My bubs will still have Lego my partner is too much of a fan of Lego for it not to feature in our daughters life lo. But yes I think the reason it's being used in education is the fact that it's so easily modified.

Unfortunately the pocket edition doesn't have The End in it yet, don't know if that's something they're working on or not. The pocket edition is growing but I don't think it has the nether in it yet either...

I am STILL not getting this minecraft thing.

There is just NO tutorial on this game at all and I can't even work out what half the objects and items are, let alone what to combine to craft things.

That's exactly how I felt when I first opened the game! You can either try to work it out yourself or look it up on the internet :)

I'm not sure what's wrong then? To start off you:

- punch wood logs
- Put those in the 2x2 crafting area in your inventory to get planks
- put 4 planks in each of the 2x2 slots to get a crafting table
- place that down, right click (on PC) on it to get a 3x3 crafting area
- put 2 planks one on top of the other to get sticks
- put 2 sticks one on top of the other and 3 wood planks on top to get a pickaxe (p for plank s for stick / is blank)
PPP
/S/
/S/
- go mining for more resources etc

Unless you've already done that and are stuck? Do you mean you don't get it in the sense that you're not enjoying it?
