That's great Chammy well done :)

All your foods you have been making on your new diet sound really delicious, the problem with me though is I am a real convenience food gal and do virtually no cooking whatsoever so that way of eating wouldn't work for me, sadly!

Health worries seem to have overtaken weight worries for me in recent weeks what with my abdominal pains and now heavy cold - the bonus being I have managed to escape my job at the school today as I don't feel up to dealing with the kids with a sore throat and a fuzzy head - yay! - but I wasn't able to escape so easily from doing my work from home job though!

I told the guy I work for I had a cold this morning and the response was, 'I know you do, but it's not like I'm going to catch it from you down the phone...' so no sympathy there!!! :D

But hopefully once I have sorted out my health troubles I can get back on with the whole eating less, moving more thing :)

I don't think I would I am the laziest person I know when it comes to cooking! :D

which book is it you are getting your recipes from?

No book, Google mostly. This was the kebab. For the two of us it was:

250g of beef mince & 250g of lamb mince (recipe wanted just beef but we had half and half in)
1 beaten egg
Quarter teaspoon of chilli powder
Quarter teaspoon of salt
Quarter teaspoon of pepper
1 clove of garlic.

All mushed together, shaped into a loaf, placed on a baking tray then in the oven at 160oC (fan) for around 50 mins (turning half way). Literally minutes to make.

Accompanied with sweet potato wedges, rough salad, greek yoghurt/garlic/chives and a VERY naughty drizzle of chilli sauce.

how's everyone getting on?

I have almost shaken off my cold so I am ready to come back to addressing the ibs/excess weight issue again!

I have been doing some research online and the message that is jumping out at me seems to be 'eat more protein'.

So I am wondering about giving this a go. I don't think I could cut out carbs completely so I am wondering about eating protein for lunch and breakfast then having what I would normally fancy for tea/dinner.

So for example, as a veggie, I might have something like high protein yoghurt, fruit and nuts for breakfast or lunch, or cottage cheese, a piece of fish, or some tofu or quorn, something like that...and then for tea/dinner I might have a sandwich or a pasta dish or a baked potato, something like that..

How does that sound, do you think I might be able to improve my ibs symptoms and/or lose some weight, if I was to start eating like that?

I lost 2lbs last week and we weren't 100% perfect with the eating, I also have a hen night this week so I'm going to try and be as good as I can ::)

[member=1183]sparkleandshine[/member] it might help, especially if your trigger is something like carbs...it's all trial and error. I know that when I had a naughty meal on Saturday I only managed to eat about half of what I would normally do and it set my IBS off (pointing out that it is indeed white flour carbs that do it - naan bread).

I don't think I updated last week - I stayed the same, again.

I'm pleased with this as I'm on steroids, among other things, right now for an infection, so staying the same is suiting me perfect right now :)

well done [member=920]katykicker[/member] :) I've been on steroids before and I know how hard it is not to put on weight when you are so that's really good :)

thanks [member=277]Chammy[/member] I think I will give it a go :) I realised that recently I have been eating a pretty carb heavy diet - mainly for convenience and because it's cheap! - but cereal for breakfast, bread for lunch and pasta for tea is perhaps overdoing it a little! I will have a go at shifting to a more protein based diet and see if it makes a difference...

Just read this whole thread, looks like you're all doing so well. YAY :)
I need to join you, I'm an unhealthy mess right now... Total sugar addict!
I lost 15lbs over a few months doing slimming world last year/early this year, but I gave up going to classes when we were super skint, and I've gained it all (probably more) back. Pay day on Friday, so I'll be investing in a set of scales then, and have got my eye on a Blend-Active, so hopefully I can join in the sucesses soon.

Do you recon just doing stuff at home works in the medium term?

Have no one to answer to except yourself can be a bit of a double edge sword I think

Got to lose a bit. Joined Weight watchers years ago but once I left then put the weight back on again. Just going to motivate myself more to be more active. Going to get a Fitbit One fitness and Sleep tracker. Gets good reviews. Want something not to wear on my wrist so that one will be good as it clips on. With that it will keep me active and aiming on a minimum of 7000 steps a day.

I gained 1.5lbs this week which when looking back over Saturday night I'm really surprised it wasn't more. The husband lost another 3 which has meant he has lost his first stone...I need to get my arse back into gear to catch him up :p

Men can be so annoying can't they chammy when it comes to losing weight they seem to do it so easily and seemingly without any effort at all!

I think doing it your own way is the only way to do it Jon because all diets will help you lose weight but no diet which is imposed on you by someone else is going to be sustainable in the long term sooner or later you are going to want to break it so I think the best way is just to listen to your body and tweak here, tweak there and those little changes you make can add up to a big difference

It might just be my imagination but cutting down on carbs does seem to have made a difference to me and mostly for the better, my IBS symptoms have lessened, my stomach looks a little bit flatter and overall I seem to be eating less. The only downside is is I feel lower in my mood so I will have to watch that. But overall good I think so I will stick with it for now, I think I need to go a bit easier on the nuts though, its just too easy to just eat the whole packet once you open one!

I saw my mum today and unprompted she commented that I looked like I had lost weight on my back, hips and backs of my legs so I suppose that is encouraging. I've realised what I seem to be doing is a less extreme version of the south beach diet which I first had a go at when trying to lose my baby weight, so I was thinking of downloading their food lists for ideas, as I've long since thrown out the book

I know I'm not really doing this at the mo as you shouldn't diet when pregnant but I was pretty pleased that at my 34 week appointment (almost 2 weeks ago) the midwife had said I'd done well with my weight - I'd only put on just over 12lbs! With my first I put on 3 stone! But started 2 stone lighter... so am the same weight now as I was just before my daughter was born :)

Well done. The general rule is 3,2,1. 3 stone if underweight, 2 stone if normal and 1 stone if overweight. So 12lbs is great whichever category you're in! :)
